Water Temp gauge beep and flashing

Jen Cupra T

Guest
I drive a 1.8T and started the car yesterday from cold when the water temperature gauge beeped and started flashing. When this perviously occurred I turned the car off then started it again and the fault went away, but it didnt work this time so I continued driving to see what would hapen-the water temp rose slowly to the usual 90 and stayed there and no more came of the fault temporarily.

A friend with VAG com linked the car up a month ago and it showed no faults. There is sufficient coolant, oil and water in the car.

When driving last nite I had the heater on "Hi"-I do NOT use the air con, but the heater seemed unusually warm for being on "Hi" so i turned it down to 25 and it was far too cold compared to what it usually is at that temp.

The water temperature has never risen above the normal 90.

What can the cause of this be, as it is becoming more of a regular occurrence?

Jen

Hi
So you have the warning beep to say the level is low when it is ok?
If this happens it is usually the expansion tank sensor that is at fault.
Not that expensive for them and takes about half hour to fit.
But could be worth getting it checked out.

Coolant level is grand, thought it could possibly be the sensor

Could you get it into a local garage to have a look for you?

Dont rush to get something until you know exactly what it is though! I have done this with my car over the last two months trying to find out whats wrong and have spent £200 so far when i didnt need to spend any of it...it would have been more if i hadnt got one part under Warranty

Remember...rush = regret

Im dubious about taking the car into a garage because I trust very few people to work on it lol, and they charge an arm and a leg to even look at the car! I will get a few friends to have a wee nosey at the car first of all which should do the trick if its a minor fault, garage is a last resort...

Skoda Octavia`s and Mk4 Golfs are the same.
Worth putting new cap on at the same time.
GSF sell these
We do not quote faults on here to make money , we do it just to help and save money

If people ask for advise we give out advise.
I am not making anything out of it and a local garage will charge diagnostics.
Why would you want to pay £50.00 ish + VAT when the part is about £8 - £9 + VAT?

I wasnt having a go at anyone on here what so ever, i really wasnt

I was just saying to Jen, be careful thats all as i have spent a fortune getting things and its not being resolved, although i think with Jens problem there is only a couple of things it could be

I also agree with what your saying which is why i wont go back to SEAT and pay £73+ VAT for them to tell me what i already know :)

We have loads of people thinking that they can come in to us , let our technicians put their car on the ramps , check it out , do a full diagnostics check.
Tell them what they need so they can go do the repair themselves and all that is Free.
Unfortunately everyone here is paid for the hours that they work and technicians time has to be accounted for.
So there are no garages out there that can tell you what the problem is for free.
So this is why there are forums like these to offer advice and help.
There is a Techie that has replied too about the same problem.
I myself used to do warranty claims and service manager and I do know how common problems are.
This is the same bottle and have seen it happen so often.
So I would say it is almost a cert that it is the expansion tank.
If people are going to ask what we think the problem is , people go out of their way to answer , if it is going to be discrdited then we may as well save our time.
I am not being nasty please dont think that I am , just pointing out that we are offering our knowledge FOC

I think you have misunderstood the point i was trying to get across as i didnt even read anyones replies to this (which had the advise in)

I dont expect anything to be done FOC, i never have and i never will and i for one use this forum all the time so know how much good advice is given out

I wasnt by any means being critical to anyones knowledge, i was just using my situation as an example as i dont want someone else to end up like i have :(

I agree with you and know how you feel , Im a student and have hardly any money after running a turbo car so am researching the car's mishap as well as i can instead of paying Seat themselves a fortune for checking the car out.

Ive gained a bit more knowledge into the problem and it sounds pretty minor luckily, and its all thanks to people who have replied to this thread! :D

I think forums like this are such a great idea as im sure it saves a fortune if problems can be diagnosed and fixed at minimal cost :)

I dont know anything about your situation I am afraid.
But what would be the point of coming on to ask for help if you dont take the advice that your given?
I am all for these forums and I personally advise anyone who wants help to go on to the forums to ask for help.
I just cannot understand how you can ask a question , but not listen to the replies

Im gonna look into the suggested areas and especially the expansion bottle as several people have suggested this as the cause, which has been a great help :) Seat are charging £20-£22 + VAT for the sensor so will get this checked out asap next week. Im sure good old GSF will come in handy again for some of the parts lol!

I wasnt saying dont take the advice at all, nor was i saying anyone was wrong! I just said be careful and sometimes its good to get the back up of a garage (once you have gathered advice from people) in order to fall back on, as sometimes one problem leads to another etc

Like i said i think my comment has been misunderstood, i meant no harm :(
