the red light on my temp came on the other day and my car is using water it was empty this morning! anyone know what is up? is it the water pump? its a 110 toledo with 144 k on it!

Have you checked for any sign of a water leak. Your radiator could be leaking, or possibly a hose which could be on their way out at that sort of mileage. Is there any sign of steam when the engine is warm (obviously top it up with coolant before starting it!)?

it needs G12 coolant which is pink and specific to all Volkswagon group engines. buy a bottle of that and have a look for visible leaks. I had a small one a while ago couldnt find it so just chucked in some rad weld which sorted it. if you can't find it give it a go
