Took my cupra in to a garage today for some diagnosis work as my engine management light had come on.
Car had quite a few faults highlted including, excessive boost, boost exceeding maximum level, running lean and also a misfire (have never felt the car misfire and with me having only had it a couple of weeks this could have ben some time before i got it.
Anyways, after doing some logs it turned out that my MAF readings were only at 60gms sec and it should be at around 140 gms sec.. (as I was told). So the MAF was replaced to cure the car from running lean. It did feel pretty sluggish but not as bad as my last cupra was when the MAf was faulty.
On the test run the mechanic hit limp mode and came back to run diagnosis again which shown excessive boost now, but the MAf readings were back up to what they should be. He tested the wastegate by pressurising the left lug as you look down at the wastegate in the car (not the one that goes off to the N75) up to 1 bar but the actuator rod didnt move and then pressure was lost.
My car is now in the garage as I am in 2 minds of what to do about the repair. My bill is slowly creeping up and ontop of the £120+ for diagnosing, fitting and supplying the MAF, I am now faced with another 2 hrs labour and £90 to fit a new forge wastegate.
The garage do know what they are doing I am sure of this. I just need reasuring that this is going to cure the problem I have, as I dont fully understand the operation of all of the valves and wastegate etc (I do understand the function!). Does this sound about right?
