Wastegate fault?

Took my cupra in to a garage today for some diagnosis work as my engine management light had come on.

Car had quite a few faults highlted including, excessive boost, boost exceeding maximum level, running lean and also a misfire (have never felt the car misfire and with me having only had it a couple of weeks this could have ben some time before i got it.

Anyways, after doing some logs it turned out that my MAF readings were only at 60gms sec and it should be at around 140 gms sec.. (as I was told). So the MAF was replaced to cure the car from running lean. It did feel pretty sluggish but not as bad as my last cupra was when the MAf was faulty.

On the test run the mechanic hit limp mode and came back to run diagnosis again which shown excessive boost now, but the MAf readings were back up to what they should be. He tested the wastegate by pressurising the left lug as you look down at the wastegate in the car (not the one that goes off to the N75) up to 1 bar but the actuator rod didnt move and then pressure was lost.

My car is now in the garage as I am in 2 minds of what to do about the repair. My bill is slowly creeping up and ontop of the £120+ for diagnosing, fitting and supplying the MAF, I am now faced with another 2 hrs labour and £90 to fit a new forge wastegate.

The garage do know what they are doing I am sure of this. I just need reasuring that this is going to cure the problem I have, as I dont fully understand the operation of all of the valves and wastegate etc (I do understand the function!). Does this sound about right?

pressurising that side of the actuator wont move the rod as its goign to be trying to close a closed wastegate.
It loosing pressure however is not good.
Usual to test on N75 side, disconnect other and apply pressure to see when it starts to crack open wastegate (and see if it holds pressure)

If there's a leak in the diaphragm then thats not going to help boost control which may explain the limp and overboost issues..

in response to bill, I had got my wires crossed it was a vacuum applied to that side and not a pressure so looks like I have to bite the bullet for a new wastegate. Damm!

Forbez, its the actuator and not the DV so its not as simple as that unfortunately!

As I said before I have complete faith in the garage as they are a well respected company but as its quite a lot of money I just need to be in understanding of the methods!

turns out it wasnt the wastegate, there were 3 leaking vac pipes and also an intermittent faulty N75 so now have the pipes replaced, new N75 and new maf and the car runs great...

As the problem was tough to diagnose, the engineer was working on the car for about 7 hrs and had to go on the dyno to be fixed.

Bit gutted about the £360 bill, but should have been more due to the labour hours but they kept the cost down to what had been previously agreed.. Car runs great now and was just over 150bhp and 160 ftlbs which is spot on for a standard car..

Roll on getting it chipped!! (heres where it all starts again!)

thats what I thought to be fair. But I am assured that it was purely down to the daignostic time as the fault was intermittent.. 7.5 hrs labour alone should have been £337.
I was charged £95 for the MAF and £50 for the N75 which I know is quite expensive, Seat said £70 for the MAF but I would have had to order it in, the garage where my car was had it on the shelf and I needed the car back..

Just out of interest...

Does anyone know the part code for the mk3 Ibiza Cupra MAF?

I had a re-engineered one fitted a few weeks ago to test whether mine was garfarkled (it was) but I aren't too sure they've put the right MAF on as I can't remember the previous stock item part code.
