Cupra not covering a pin hole leak in A/C Compressor raditor for a car 15 months old, claiming not a mechanical defect issue.

So dealler suspects a foreign object came through grill. The fins do not look damaged

My contension is that must have been very small object not to effect fins, and if this is the case this is hazard anyone could suffer on our roads

Surely a mesh between front grill and radiator should be present to stop such damage

Unfortunately, VAG appear to be taking a much firmer line on warranty claims since Dieselgate and in this instance it seems it’s your word against the dealers, although if the fins aren’t damage, IMHO it increases the chance the leak is the result of a manufacturing defect. You could ask the dealer if Cupra would abide by the findings of an independent inspection by a (non-Cupra) qualified motor engineer or technician if in their opinion there is a manufacturing defect. However, I dare say Cupra would say any such inspection needs to be carried out by Cupra or one of its dealerships and would disregard the view of an independent inspection.

Some current VAG models (e.g. Golf and Polo GTI’s) have grilles with very large holes that provide little - if any - protection to the a/c condenser from road debris; a case of form over function. Hopefully dealers have a good supply of replacement a/c condensers when customers have the same experience as you.

To prevent the same thing happening again in future, is it possible to fit some small holed galvanised wire mesh behind the grille to provide additional protection without restricting airflow?

Thankyou much appreciated
