Warning about RED 150 FR YY55 NPE

Hi all this is my first post so I apologise it is such a negative one to start with.

I recently bought my first Leon - a 55 plate 150 FR TDI - really well taken care of year old minter from Available Car in Castle Donington near Derby.
It had a few subtle mods - tinted rear windows, red calipers and a seat sport gear knob. But otherwise it was sold as standard.

Not long after I got the car the clutch started to slip badly on accelaration in 3rd gear and above under acceleration. After a quick search on this forum and a call to the first owner of the car I found that the car had been chipped to 195bhp.

I took the car back to the dealer and to cut a long story short they had the power put back to standard and wanted to hand it back to me without doing anything more to the clutch as it was not slipping any more with only 150bhp.

As I figured the clutch was pretty fried and did not fancy picking up the bill a year later when it finally gave out I handed back the keys and walked away.

The car is back up for sale on their website so if anyone is looking be wary.
If a Seat dealer were to inspect the ECU they would see the chip had been tampered with and that could invalidate the warranty - even though it is standard now they could put any mechanical failure down to previous modifications and I wouldn't fancy anyones chances of winning that argument.

I now have another identical but totally standard red FR from a IMG Seat in Warrington - they delivered it to my door - over 150 miles and I have the security of a full Seat warranty.

Although I have to admit I do miss that extra 45 horses - maybe when the warranty has ran out......

Cheers

Steve

I thought of doing that when the warranty ran out.........but 18 months down the line & I couldnt resist lol

Only problem is the £700+ bill for a performance clutch - good luck with your new buy mate :)
