Hi, ive recently bought an ibiza FR 1.9 Tdi, when i was on the motorway today i noticed a nasty vibe through the car. I was in 6th doing about 70mph and when i put my foot down i felt it through the whole car, but when i backed off the accelorator it dissapeared??? Can anyone shed some light on this?

Thanks

PS im new to the forum and its been a great help, Thanks everyone!

Try fastening the intercooler pipe to the side of the fuel filter housing with a zip-tie and see if the vibration goes away.

also put a small piece of foam between the engine cover and the same pipe.

Quite a common issue with the diesel ibiza

If it is wheels out of balance then I suspect it will be rear wheels rather than front.

1. vibration above 60mph is usually rear wheel generated.
2. vibration through front wheels is generaly noticed at lower speeds and gets worse as you go faster.

It could also be a crap piece of road ?? - has it happened on any other strech of road / motorway ?

Do you get a droning type sound with the vibration? Like a dodgy wheel bearing type sound but when you are going straight?

If you do then it's classic damper failure............you get to a particular speed and the damper basically spasms out of control

will simply be your wheels need balancing or 1 of the alloys has hit a pot hole in the past and it has buckled it slightly but just get them balanced and your tracking done will cost you £40 at kwik fit ect wouldnt worry too much

maybe a c.v joint on driveshaft if not the other reson i gave

 welcome to scn

Apparantly on Ibizas if a wheels gets kerbed, it can easily knock the wheel out of alignment. More so than other cars.
But this does'nt explain why you get the vibration when flooring it in 6th. Mabye try out the same thing again...70mph in 6th... but instead of flooring in 6th, shift down to 5th accelerate and see if you get the same vibration. It could just be the car straining in 6th thats causing it.

I might have another reason for this vibration

Front wishbone rear bushes are knackered !

When they are knackered - as you boot it, the front end gets loads of toe out because of the wishbone movement. The toe out causes the wheels to fight each other and gives vibration.

As you let off - the wishbones move back to the correct place and the toe in returns to normal.

I bet the car also feels very twitchy under braking - because the car gets more toe in under brakes when the wishbones move.

Change to CUPRA front wishbone rear bushes.
