Very stiff gear changes when cold.

When I put my car back together after the rebuild I replaced the gear box oil to castrol 80w, at first the gear changes were fine, but then started to get stiff when cold and fine when warm, so doing a bit of reading on here I changed the oil to genuine VW Redlne MT90.

Now when it's cold it's like the gearbox has been taking Viagra! It's almost impossible to get into gear when stationary, although when moving it's okish but still not good.

It's doesn't grind/crunch but it can do in reverse when it's
cold.

The clutch pedal is weird, it has to be right to the floor to get the gears, like really ram it in!

Reckon it could be a worn release bearing, the linkages and clutch seem fine, great biting point and no slipping.

Doing my head in now and the cars almost undrivebale when cold, it's like the pedal is going to snap by ramming it in or the gear knob will come off in my hand!

I have the exact same problem.

I have noticed that my clutch pedal sits halfway down from cold which in turn means it doesn't travel far enough meaning cant select gear!

I have replaced the clutch, flywheel, slave cylinder and bled it all through!!

Well i tryed to bleed it yesterday and could t get anything to come through, followed the line back till I found that the fluid was coming through the master cylinder on the clutch!

Removed it and it looks like the seal/piston has snapped off inside so no pumping to get the fluid down.

Going to change that tomorrow and see if that sorts it.

My clutch was half way down when i 1st started it on Saturday so i sat in the car and pulled the clutch pedal upwards with my foot. It took a bit of force but then clicked back into place.

Now it sits level with the brake pedal and is smooth going into gear from cold.

Fingers crossed it stays that way!!

i have a friend mine up on a ramp and check it all over today, looks like the clutch pedal has broken before as there is a bit of welding on there, but doesnt seem to be done properly, so going to get a new peddle and get a new slave cylinder at same time and hopefully that will be my problem sorted, because the clutch was getting full use
