Very noisy release bearing after Helix clutch :-(

I got my car back yesterday after having a Helix autosport clutch / single lightened flywheel and Quaife diff fitted, car feels much better now but....
When the clutch pedal is up it sounds like a tractor, the noise goes when the clutch pedal is down. This only seems to be a problem at under 1000rpm'ish
ie if i rev it very slightly the noise dissapears. I have heard release bearings being noisy on some cars before but the noise mine makes takes the p155.
I had the work done at a very well known tuners so didn't expect any problems after fitting. Has anyone elso on here had the Helix clutch with single piece flywheel fitted to their LCR and suffered the same problem afterwards.
I just don't know what to do, the garage that done the work is 180 miles away from me (I haven't told them the problem yet) :-(

Hi Mate
You tend to find that going the SMF route it can get noisier
Helix do do a release bearing so it could be worth checking to see if one of those has been fitted at the same time
I doubt very much that it is due to incorrect fitting

This is normal when moving to a single-mass flywheel, the clatter is the shafts rattling not the release bearing, no big deal really but it does make things a wee bit noisier. I have the Helix group N clutch and single-mass in my car.

as said its more than likely the single mass flywheel, however if yours is a Helix organic friction plate this dusts up like mad, so release bearing can stick

Right, now i'm getting seriously pi:censored:d off with the damn noise my gearbox makes. I phoned Jabbasport about it and got absolutely no help at all, saying it was a trait of this particular set up. I will be phoning Helix themselves in the week to speak to someone who may be able to help me cos after paying £2,000 for my gearbox to sound like a f:censored:ed diesel I expect something sorted! Where do I stand? and no, i'm not just hearing a 'bit' more noise, when the car ticks over after a drive it sounds like a bag of bolts (only when the gear oil gets thin I suppose) the noise shuts up straight away when I put the clutch pedal down. I let Jabba hear the noise down the phone as I pressed the clutch in and let it out but I just got fobbed off with a load of old bull. I could tell by their reaction when they heard it that they knew it wasn't normal. Is there anyone in the know on here that I could call and let you hear the awful rattling my gearbox makes down the phone, or is there anyone in the South East Kent area that I could drive to just for an opinion? I have worked on many cars in my lifetime and not a single one, not even 300,000 miler diesels sound as bad as my Cupra R now. I am getting to the point now where I have spent so much time and money and put so much effort in to own the car that I adore, I am thinking of just selling it and getting an old banger!

input shaft rattle is normal for single mass flywheel as previously said.

how rattly is rattly however..... is subjective

Were you not warned beforehand that it would be noisier and clatter at idle? Did you have a paddle or organic clutch fitted, the paddle clutch is noisier than the organic? Mine does clatter a bit but not loud enough to really annoy me.

In all honesty clatter is a normal trait from this setup. The only solution is to go back to a dual-mass flywheel and standard clutch.

No I was not warned about 'any' additional noise whatsoever. I asked them to quote me for a Quaife diff and 'uprated' clutch. They gave me a price, they took the car, they fitted it all, charged me and left me very unhappy. There was no mention by them at any stage about additional noise! Im pretty sure it's the organic clutch. I dont mind the additional noise when driving its just the unacceptable noise when the car idles. They did have trouble fitting the clutch and said that 4 bolts had failed and had to wait for replacements to come in, im wondering if something has gone wrong?.....
Another thought I have just had, is there a thicker oil I could use for my transmission as the noise only comes after few miles of driving?

Well, singlemass flywheel does generate a diesel soundalike rattle.
Not very funny driving downtown (I tend to keep the clutch down at trafficlights to keep it quiet) , but very suitable at the track..

As far as I know - only way to avoid it is to go back to dubblemass - and risk it failing under high power...

blimey some people are hard to please,i was at jabba having work done to my own lcr the day your car left.your car was delivered to you on a trailer by jabba which is over 150 miles away from you plus they gave you a hire car,i asked the guys there what had been done to your car they explained, also mentioning the car took longer than expected and they were delivering vehicle as it was difficult for you to collect ,so they would deliver it as it wasnt your fault that car wasnt ready when expected.surely thats good service,so find it difficult to believe that they are not interested in solving your issue.no problem with work just its louder than you thought it would be.
