very annoying immobiliser problem

I'm new here and have posted my hello! in the newbie bit of the forum, now i was wondering if anyone has any idea whats wrong with my car.

Ive done a little search and come up with this thread in which someone has a similar problem like mine, however mine is a bit more strange.

Basically my cars immobiliser is going mental. Some days I can start it fine, no hassle, other days I start it and then once ive stopped, taken the keys out, and tried to restart it the immobilser light flashes, and the engine cuts out. But sometimes I can bump start the car and it goes (immobiliser light still flashing), sometimes it wont. Other times it goes but the immobiliser light still flashes, and then once i turn it off it wont start again.

Just wondering if anyone knew of the same problem/common fault etc. I'm currently trying to find a decent auto electrician in Liverpool (if anyone knows one that would be brilliant cos im new to the area), but just thought id ask on here incase there were some wires i could wiggle, or bits i could bash to make my car work again! Sorry its a bit long winded, thanks!

My sons ibiza TDi is doing pretty uch the same. Seat replaced the ignition coil, said it was ok and the next day it done the same thing. They took it back replace the chip in the key (he only has one key) still didn't work. Now they are saying its the whole display unit and have ordered one, so we'l have to wait and see. Did you find out what your problem was?

anyone tried the reader coil ?

its the reciever sensor that reads the chip from the key

clips on to the top of the ignition barrel like a scarf with a small loom that plugs in

6K0 953 254 for most of the mk3's and cost's about £10

reader coil

I did mention this to the Seat garage and had been told by others on the phone thats what the likely cause is but I assume they tested that, I'll mention it again when I get in touch with them. The thing is I took it to Seat because they had all the diagnostics to test it so I'd hoped thawould have shown up as the cause?

thanks for all the replies, yeah im from liverpool and its just the standard immobiliser. I took it to liverpool seat where they got me a new key and tested it and they said i needed a new ECU. However when i sent the ECU to the ECU doctor they said that it was fine, so now im back to square one!! The car still wont start but now the ECU light is off (after it came back from seat). So still wondering if anyone can recommend a decent garage in liverpool?

you can sned your ecu off to somewhere like 'the ecu clinic' and have your immobiliser removed, obviously you'd loose the immobiliser function but gets rid of the problem and wasting more money on useless diagnosis, just an idea :)
