Value of my Exeo ST?

Sorry to be doing one of these “how much is my car worth” threads but the Exeo is so tricky to value with not so many of them about. Getting an itch to go back to a hatchback petrol so just looking for a rough figure.

Spec as follows:

62 Reg Seat Exeo ST 2.0 TDi 143 Manual (facelift)
White
Sport Tech trim- Bose, Sat Nav, Bluetooth, Full leather, Cruise Control, Steering Controls, Rear Parking Sensors.
Winter pack- Heated front seats, washer jets & mirrors
LED headlights
38k
MOT: 2018
FSH mainly SEAT history apart from the last two.
Cambelt & Waterpump replaced using Genuine VAG parts at VASSTECH (34932 miles)
Oil & Filter Change using Quantum fully Synthetic 5w30 & VW filter, brake fluid & Fuel filter also changed at the same time at VASSTECH (37153 miles).
18” Quartz alloys unmarked with Goodyear Eagle F1 Asy 2’s all round.

I have also fitted the A4 B7 plenum and battery covers to keep debris out and tidy up the engine bay, and have fitted the Genuine SEAT heavy duty boot liner so the boot is like brand new.

When I first purchased the car i had a custom Cat back stainless steel exhaust made by Darkside Developments (no powerflow rubbish) as the original silencer was rotting off which has a lifetime warranty. DPF/Cat still present a standard exhaust could easily be fitted straight back on if preferred. I opted for OEM style tips so looks very subtle.
All original books & wallet are present with every MOT and invoice for all the work which has been carried out.

It really is in very good condition bar the unavoidable stone chips if I’m being picky.
I’m very particular with my cars it took me sometime to find the right one especially with the winter pack which in my opinion is a must for leather seats!!

For a private sale about £5000, has it had the dreaded emissions update?

5k!!! The mileage is 38k not 138k The cheapest one on autotrader with the same spec and nearly double the mileage is up for 8k. Sport tech spec seem to hold their money a lot better especially the facelift than the cheaper spec ones. Thanks for the input though.

Just going on what is selling, not what may be asked by dreamers, I have seen 2 nice 2013 techs go for £5500 and my march 2013 is £6000, low mileage will not increase the price, high mileage will decrease though, I am quoting dealer prices with warranty, you are asking private value!

, You can’t compare a Tech to a Sport Tech it’s like comparing a SE to M sport or a technik to an S line in the BMW & Audi world. And I beg to differ about low mileage not increasing the value of a car! I’ve already been offered today 7k for mine up against a A4 S Line.

low mileage increases the value, I have always paid extra in the past for 20-30k mile cars as unlike the number on the reg (stupid number plate obsession in this country...) low mileage will actually make a massive difference in wear/tear parts, faults, running costs etc.

my car is the same spec, so did a quick search on WBAC (adjusted to your mileage) and it came up with £5.8K

I know theres fees etc to come off but mine is 11 plate so pre facelift.

£5K is ridiculous.

I know it is more miles than yours (but on an Exeo diesel this is no problem) and its not a sport (cheaper tyres and more comfortable ride on our terrible roads)
I just thought why should someone pay more for a private sale with all the possible pitfalls?

Just because you prefer a cheaper spec Exeo doesn’t mean all other Exeo estates are the same value. Anyway I give up this is painful it’s like talking to a brick wall, I’ll use “Sport Tech ST’s” currently for sale on the likes of Autotrader and Ebay to give me a rough idea of price.

Tamas I have to disagree with this statement

No way on a modern quality built car, my Exeo had 103,000 on it when I bought, its now got 163,000 and over nearly 3 years it has cost me a new rear spring (due to the potholes) £85 fitted, it drives like new and has returned 51.45 MPG over those 60,000 miles.

Few years ago a friend of mine bought a 2 year old Golf GT TDI 170 with 98K miles. From the outside the car looked brand new, it drove great, I thought he did well. A few months later engine management light kept coming on and car would get into limp mode (it was losing coolant among other issues). He was in and out of the garage, spending about £5k on repairs, including cracked header, new injector nozzles, god knows what else. Some covered under warranty some not. He was throwing good money after bad and ended up selling the car at a massive loss.

All I`m saing is the more mileage the bigger risk you take when buying a 2nd hand car. I think you can count yourself verylucky because probably the previous owner(s) did a good job servicing the car but this is not guaranteed and even a "full service history" can be falsified.

Less miles mean lower risk so will command a higher price.

Arse has complete fallen out of the second hand market - never mind the derv market which is completely ****ed now thanks to dieselgate etc.

All the market is gonna flood with ex-pcp vehicles also.... great for buyers, **** for private sales.

Mileage doesn't always = more money either, depends.

arnold clark glasgow had for sale 61 plate 170 sport tech with leather sat nav bose ect 57 k i think for £5700 fsh ect i actually offered to pay to have it delivered to a closer store or if i went to glasgow would i get discount-answer was no.i made a choice to sacrifice sat nav ect for the engine and a better colour/condition.1st gear **** but it doesnt engage traction control like the 2.3 v5 toledo,2nd and upwards would leave the toledo behind.a while ago i raced(not on public roads) a golf gtd only when he gave up did i manage to get in front.but these cars are not built for that speed because even the toledo becomes very light at the front at 140mph with more available but i would not try it.older and wiser now but the 170 exeo rocks,was looking for skoda octavia vrs but outpriced so found something that was faster and cheaper though higher insurance

paid £5400 for my 59 170 sport tdi,immaculate though,leather,18" 55k fsh.bloody love it-faster than my v5 only after the start line.well underated model .stereo is crap though.how many miles has it done what spec ie 143 are common the 170 less so.dependant on miles unless thats yours with 164K in which case snap his hands off

Most I’ve been offered is £6500-£7000 part ex against a £9000 car which is decent to be fair. The estates seem to be a lot more desirable and hold their money better. With mine been the facelift with updated Bi xenon & LED daytime lights and with decent service history might also be helping. When speaking with garages they seem relived that the cambelt/waterpump has recently been changed along with a full service knowing it’s a big money saving for them. I’m unsure on what replacement route I’ll go down currently looking at A4 Avant (B8) 1.8/2.0T’s id happily have an Exeo 2.0T but seem almost extinct in the Estate.

How much newer was the £9000 car or older!? guess it was also higher mileage than yours, don't let them rob you, you have a treasure, keep it. Why the compulsion to go with petrol?

I was looking at 09/10 reg A4's with around 60k in the clock, mainly considering going back to petrol as I now have a works vehicle so not covering as many miles as previously. Having studied the market I've come to conclusion the Exeo will now be staying as to find another car with the same extras and build quality for the the value of my car is pretty much impossible unless I go for something like a KIA which I couldn't bring myself to buy one. I appreciate the german (I know it's Spanish but as we know pretty much every part is Audi) quality far too much my last 4 cars have been german built and I've never looked back!

Do your chores first, this is one long boring post!!!

My central heating packed up last winter and I had to sell my 60 plate ST Sport Tech 170 in August to get it working for this winter. The car was black. had 81k, full dealer history (and oil changes in between at my place of work) optional xenons, no recall, no dents, no scratches. First viewer snapped it up and he'd looked at many beforehand. I advertised it for £6k, best I could wrangle out of the him was £5250. A few weeks later I see an identical 11 reg for sale with 94k. That started at £7k and over the months it trickled down to £5250 or best offer before finally selling.

Since I paid the heating bill (£2500! ) I've been looking for another ST within my measly remaining budget. I've checked every car sales site several times a day and I've attended a few auctions with the intent of taking an Exeo ST home at the trade price, plus buyers fees, etc. Despite people saying that the used car market is on its knees, cars are selling above trade prices and Exeos are no exception. Bad cars are also selling for good money, with all sales situations in life it all depends on what people are prepared to pay on that particular day.

I did a 7 hour round trip on Friday for a 59 reg SE Lux 170 in Dakota Red with every option but Bose. Front bumper, bonnet and both nearside doors were scraped up, it had dents all over it, bad stonechip repairs and small deep scratches all over. I thought it was my lucky day, especially as the colour is a bit divisive but someone else liked it too and I ended up having to stop bidding at £300 over the trade value when I knew I had no more money in the bank. They put it on Autotrader on Saturday morning with 1 bad picture and had it sold by lunch time, with about £600 profit for their efforts.

I've also looked at Passats while I've been at the auctions (theres 10 of them to 1 Exeo!) and they all sold £300-500 above what the guides say they're worth.

With a car like an Exeo the best chance you have of getting good money for it is to sell it privately, or if you have a mate with a used car lot, ask them to sell it for you for a fee. Your worst chance of getting good money is via a car buying service or part ex. Car dealers are in the business of making money whatever they do, I speak from experience, I spent 15 years working in their parts departments. They'll offer you a trade value but they still make a profit at auction 99% of the time. A gentleman that is selling a low mileage Sport Tech online has told me he's quite happy to let me have his car for the trade in price as he'd rather it went to a good home. I've done my research and they plan to make at least £500 at auction, if the car is as good as he says it is they'll make closer to £1000. If I had the money, I would've bought it already

Condition and options are generally what keep a car valuable, colour does make a difference as well, but not as much these days. Unfortunately cars that were a sales disaster when new tend to depreciate like stones thrown off bridges thoughout their life. I cherished my last car and still lost half of what I paid for it in 3.5 years. I was lucky and brave enough to buy it from the auction at 3 years old. If i hadn't, I would've lost close to £3000 each year I owned it! If you buy a "good value for money" car you have to be prepared to lose money. Our only real hope of making good money in the future is when one gets used by the feature character in a cult TV show. If anyone in here writes scripts for TV, do us a favour, get Gene Hunt saying "Exit the Exeo, its my turn to drive!" and we'll be eternally grateful!

Sorry one last thing. If anyone that reads this is trading in their Exeo ST (Estate) and has been offered less than £3000 for it, please PM me with some details of your car and I may be able to offer you more for it.

I sold my 2013 ST Sport Tech 170 for £7.2k in 2016 at 76k. A bit tatty (wheels and chips) and a PS motor on its way....

Bought for £14k in (late) 2013 with 3k on the clock from a main dealer.

Great car and loved the seats and old school quality cabin.
