Ive just purchased the below lead made by Jem Auto but it only has a few pins see below pic whereas a friend of mines one has all 16 !! Can I with the one I've just bought use all the features in VagCom with so few pins in it ??

whict web site did you buy this cable from ??

It does to look as tho is has all that is needed


my cable from www.gendan.co.uk also has all 16 pins in the plug

Well from ebay from them, who are in america !! Says Jem Auto on it.. Does look very good quality I must admit !!

How come though the Port on the car has 16 pin holes if it doesn't need them or is that a cost thing !!

im not sure why they added 16 places on the OBD port.

Here are the pinouts for what you have now if it helps

1 -
2 Bus positive Line of SAE-J1850
3 -
4 Chassis ground
5 Signal ground
6 CAN high (ISO 15765-4 and SAE-J2234)
7 K line of ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4
8 -
9 -
10 Bus negative Line of SAE-J1850
11 -
12 -
13 -
14 CAN low (ISO 15765-4 and SAE-J2234)
15 L line of ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4
16 Battery voltage

im not sure why they added 16 places on the OBD port.

Most of the pins not in the list above are left to the manufacturer to use as they see fit. This allows manufacturers to do their own thing using the "standard" connector instead of needing a separate one.
