mine was very similar too, its not worth buying the expensive rosstec ones if you have an older copy of vagcom as itll do the same job.

I bought mine from that seller and it worked fine with the freebie software.

That was on my old Passat though, haven't tried it on my Toledo yet (haven't needed to - everything works!)

i've got a Belkin USB/Serial converter and run VAG-COM with a serial cable. Absolutely no problems whatsoever.

Make sure you've got the correct drivers for your version of windows for the converter (free from the Belkin website) and that you select the correct COM port in VAG-COM (you can find the port address in hardware manager).

Thanks that was the answer I was looking for. I've already got a Belkin convertor.

I might give the serial one a go.
