hello
I have purchased usb-obd2 cable for 10$, from suplier alpha bid, but it seems that they send me bad cable, as I can't install drivers for the cable.

They claim that their item is 100% compatibile with 409.1 vag com shareware program, but when I install that program and try to instal new device (usb-obd2 cable), the aplication says that the drivers are not right for the device.

I folow the exact procedure from ross tech web page => http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/usb/usb-config.html but it didn't work?

So do anywhone has any idea or I was ****ed up by the suplier, because I also found on ross tech offical site that 3rd parties cables won't work with their drivers.

It also has no sense to return the item and get money back as the shiping from EU to US is more than the item is worth. shiiping cost is min 14$.

I had loads of bother installing the drivers for the same cable, eventually they worked, think you install the program you download which installs something for the cable, then insert the cable and let it automatically find the drivers, ive had the same cable coming up as several different devices before and dont know how i got it to work in the end :S

Sorry its not much help

you mean this one http://images.auctionworks.com/hi/69/68740/UsbVagComCableFiles2.rar

it doesn't work wvwn with this. as I understand them the aplication make the usb cable to work on com port, or something like that.

here their reply...

We have sold 1000's of these to happy customers. please see the proper instructions and drivers below. You can get the USB instructions and download files using the following link:
www.stores.ebay.com/alpha-bid
*Click on 'Manuals & Downloads.

Or click this link:
http://images.marketworks.com/hi/69/68740/VagComUSBCableInstructions3.pdf

As an alternative some find this driver works as well:
http://www.ftdichip.com/FTDrivers.htm
http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm

Please make sure ignition key is 'On' and cable connected to car for power.

Most of the time it is just a matter of getting the 'TEST' to show 'OK' by setting the COM Port in the device manager to 1,2,3 or 4. Be sure to load the driver from our store page here:
http://stores.ebay.com/alpha-bid/Manuals-and-Downloads.html.

Then perform the 'TEST' in the Vag-Com Software trying Com Port 1 to 4, until the test says 'OK'. Be certain that the cable is plugged into the car with the ignition on. You can also make sure that the cable is occupying COM port 1, 2, 3 or 4 by changing the setting in Windows Device Manager.

If your getting an error 'No response from controller', try lowering the 'Baud Rate' in the software. Also make sure the controller you are trying to access exists on the vehicle.

We can always accept a return for replacement a refund in full. Let me know what I can do.

I somehow manage to fix the problem and install the drivers, and the vag com program does recognise port and interface, but only if the cable is pluged into a car and switch to on.
So I found this only by accident, as the application should recognised interface even if not pluged into a car.

also I do not know why the application does not recognised the port after I unpluged the cable from the car and try to run TEST again. Also I do not know why is not possible to adjust window properties (size) if the cable is unpluged?

But I found that vag com (shareware) is realy wery plucked and that you shoul purchased ross tech licenced program for $99.

I also found some application called VW TOOL, and this program works withought trouble, and offer some measuring blocks that are locked in freeware vag com program.

And on the other hand, I really do not see the seens of this product, as if something is wrong the best and the cheapest solution is visiting the servicer. I must admit that the only reason for me to bought the vag com cable was curiosity.

That depends on the design of the interface. VAG-COM will indeed recognize our own USB interfaces even if they are not plugged into a car (and will tell you that the interface isn't plugged into the car). However, most 3rd party USB interfaces act like a serial interface with a built-in USB converter, which means the program can't recognize them unless they have power from the car.

That was a good program back when it was current in the 1990's. However, it has many problems and issues on MY 2000 and newer cars and hasn't been updated since 1999.
