VAG choice - which to do?

Siyuation is the proper VAG COM stuff is too pricey for me so its going to be a cable off fleabay.

I can either get a USB cable to use on my fairly up to date Dell laptop with VISTA or buy a serial cable to use with my P133 ancient laptop which runs XP.

I see many people having issues with USB stuff and also VISTA can cause issues. Haven't seen so many comments on serial fleabay cables - is this because they are better or because no one buys them any more?

Which is likely to cause less hassles?

i would say serial less, not that i have one , i have the usb, which causes some stick with vista

I went with the USB - VISTA option - actually not had too many problems, key steps were

1. Under device manager changing the setting of the com port to be 2 (or one that was free in the range 1-4)
2. changing the baud rate to 4800
3. changing it to run in xp compatability mode.
