Does anyone else feel the engine slightly check or chop at 85+?

On a separate issue, should I be concerned if the alternator warning light flashed on for a minute a few days ago and never since then?

Nope, found it to be very smooth and responsive between 80-100

Are you sure it was the alternator light that flashed? When I first got mine I hadn't shut the boot properly and a red light flashed, thought it might have been something serious till I looked more closely to see it was the door/boot open light. Cant remember what colour the alternator light is though.

Hi kewe,

Don't misunderstand me - theres no problem with acceleration and throttle response. It just feels slightly staggered or choppy when going upwards from 85ish. Having said that I tend not to notice at certain speeds

The alternator light is red and is a box with positive and negative symbols on it. Its defintely not the boot light - I am well acquainted with that.

Perhaps the best thing is to get a mechanic to check it all out before the warranty runs out..

Sorry v5er, didn't mean to sound condescending about the light. I'll have to have another go at the 85+ to see if I can feel anything you suggest [B)]

Could it be something like MAF or some electronic throttle management gizmo. It would be nice to have some ballpark options before I go to a garage.

skinnylew - where on earth did you manage to get to 143?!! We all better be careful soon as the points system for speeding will be changed soon. I don't know about you but pubic transport is not the way I like to travel.

Ok the "checking" occurs at around 90+ and only when reducing throttle (no braking). Someone suggested that it could be the spark plugs. Has anyone else had similar issues? Did replacing the sparks do the trick?

As for the alternator, it seems that needs changing, as will the master cylinder (clutch). These have become apparent due to the cold weather, when the alternator light appears as orange on the dash and the clutch pedal hits the floor.

I reckon these problems are just due to age/mileage, and luckily they will be sorted out under the remaining warranty. Is it normal for Seat dealers to charge extra to just diagnose such problems?

Skinnylew - private test track eh? Sounds nice - I would love to take my tolly round one just to see what it can do.

Hi v5er.
Mine's a 150 and came back from a 55k service with a similar problem. Plugs and filters were changed, new coil pack fitted (quite common on the v5, apparently). Nothing on the diagnostic but specialist who drove it agreed there was a slight hesitation at certain revs. Not serious, but noticeable because the car's so smooth otherwise. They cleaned off the throttle body carbon deposits, which cured it for a few days. I may be imagining it, but I think it's back. I expect it'll be some electronic gizmo that will defy all efforts to fix!

Mine had the problem before and after servicing. The stealer (now closed down) told me it was probably the excess carbon deposited on the throttle body. Probably is the key word. It could also be the sparks or anything else as you have found out to your expense. An engine purge might be worth a shot. I've just done my accounts and I spent less on my house last year than my Tolly!

Could it be the MAF that quite a few correspondents talk about? That would have been picked up at the service, wouldn't it?
Only had the car a couple of months, so I'm going through it bit by bit. Next thing to sort will be a sticking front armrest (and the rattle that goes with it), creaking rear sunblind (surely the most useless extra ever) and updating the sat/nav disc.
However, the hesitation in the throttle response is the only thing spoiling the overall driving experience, so I'm determined to find a cheap solution to that first of all.
