V5 170 Emissions light

Only had my Toledo for 3 days and the emisions lights has just lit up on the way home:cry::cry::cry:
The car still drives perfectly, no hesitation, lumpyness, idle issues etc...

From the searching/reading I've done so far, I think I'm looking at lamda probes?

I'm getting VAG-COM hopefully tomorrow, so hopefully that will shed some more light, but am I looking in the right direction?

I also seems to be a common issue across VAG?

Cheers

There's another post on here with someone having issues with their emissions light, I believe the garage suggested the coils and spark plugs? VAG-COM will tell you where to look though.

I am starting to wonder whether they should have supplied VAG-COM with every car sold, then again I guess they wouldn't be able to charge £100 a time for a garage if everyone had it for themselves!

got my VAG-COM hooked up and it reports:

VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US
chassis Type: 1L - Seat Toledo
Scan: 01,02,03,08,15,25,41,56

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Address 01: Engine
Controller: 066 906 032 A
Component: MOTRONIC ME7.1 G 0011
Coding: 00031
Shop #: WSC 00046
2 Faults Found:
16804 - Catalyst System: Bank 1: Efficiency Below Threshold
P0420 - 35-00 - -
16501 - Engine Coolant Temp. Sensor (G62): Signal too Low
P0117 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
Readiness: 0000 0000

Can anyone confirm which LAMBDA sensor I need? Is the front or rear?

I've reset the code, and I'm going to run some fuel system cleaner through it as the car has sat and not moved for a few weeks before I got it.

Cheers

How can you tell it's the Lambda Sensor from those codes?

I know the Lambda sensor/s have their own fault code numbers and usually state something like B1/S1 for Pre CAT or B2/S1 for post CAT if I remember correctly.

I think a faulty Lambda sensor could cause the 16804 problem, but the 16501 is specific to the coolant temp sensor.

according to ross tech wiki, they are a possible cause, I realise it could also bethe CAT too. but the O2 sensors are cheaper to try!

The temp sensor seems straight forward, although I do not have any of the symtoms identified in the rosstech wiki. Engine was cold when I ran the diag so obviously too low lol)

(I can't post likns to the URLs yet though)
thanks

It will throw up the cat as well as any sensor fault as its a 'domino' effect for eg air flow sensor less than, so car will run rich to compensate hence the cat will have to deal with the excess fuel, so that will bring up a fault

My EML comes on intermittently, it comes on for maybe 3 days, goes off for a week, theres a sensor near your CAT, try cleaning it with some brake fluid, i need to do mine. I wouldnt worry too much, check your air filter is clean as my EML came on on the way home from puchase too! Got it home opened the airbox and it was a mucky, not only that loads of leaves were blocking the air feed pipe which in my opinion is tiny and could do with been relocated along with the airbox drilled (a near future plan)

I suppose i wouldnt worry too much about the EML unless it goes into 'limp' mode

Hope this helps

Just serviced it, (not cheap eh!), air filter was dirty, oil was black, plugs were black. Forte Advanced Gas treatment in the tank.

We'll see how it goes, fingers crossed it stays off!
