Using USB with Release 311.2-N

I've been running this version for a few years now on my old Dell Latitude D400 with a simple serial cable I have off eBay - it is fully registered.

I've got a new laptop now (Inspiron 1520) which has no serial port so I can't use that cable. It has no PCMCIA slot so I can't get a PCMCIA card with a serial port on it. And I also beleive the software will not work with a Serial>USB converter?

So... I'm happy with this software as it's registered so I was going to install and use it on my new laptop but it looks like I can't do that... unless if I get a USB cable from eBay and configure it so it uses COM 4 ... if I use my existing software and get it to use COM 4 would it work?

If the above does not work, can I use my current registration code with one of the newer versions of the software?

Any help on the matter is appreciated.

Ive got one of those cables from fleabay as well, my new latop didnt have serial so baught the usb cable from fleabay. That worked fine with vag 409 or 3xxx.

Excellent thanks... I'll buy one of the new USB cables and use my existing software!
