Using CC software to advance ignition

Just wondering whether anyone has used the Custom Code software to advacne the ignition timings on their motor via their laptop?

I'm thinking of doing this but first need to log the CFs on the 4 cylinders.

Anyone tried this - and how did it go?

Cheers

Contact Gary M, he has had very good results, don't just do it though you need to be using Octane booster, max gary used was 2.25 Degrees of advance, I tried it on my APR Map whilst at the SCC rr day in between runs, Jim was very obliging whilst I took Vag com readings and played about with settings using Lemmiwinks ( same as Custom settings) i gained a few lbs/ft but it was at the expense of smoothness proving that the car is running at it's optimum so turned it back down ( APR map makes power on timing and low boost, CC used low timing and High boost) but both end up with a similar result.
Word of warning though be very fastidious about adding a small amount then log, then add some more then log.......it becomes very addictive funnily enough but the only surefire was to prove that the extra advance is actually doing anything is to do it when your car is on the dyno!:)

Thanks - I've spoken to GaryM about it already - was just wondering if anyone has had any decent results.

Why do you need the octane boost - surely if you advacne in .75deg at a time and keep an eye on the CFs and their not running 6+ then you should be fine. After all, if you did it with octane boost, you'd only have to retard them when you next fill up (or add more octane boost).... so no point in advancing the timings...... or am I missing something?
