Urgent Help With Mk4 Ibiza

BIG.D

Guest
Had a problem with my MK4 Ibiza 2.0 sport over the weekend, it overheated. Called RAC they found a coolant fault code. I had it towed to local SEAT dealer (big mistake i think) They have taken 2 days to look at it, and now quoted £250 to fit a new water pump. Has anyone had this fault or somthing sim, and or can somone advise me is they are overcharging for new water pump (i belive parts are £25!!) Any advise would be great, thanks in advance!!!

my brother had the exact same problem on his 1.8t golf and unfortunatly as far as i am aware they have to take the whole cambelt crap off so it is a very expensive job, but make sure they fit it with an uprated waterpump so it doesn't happen again and depending on miles may be worth getting them to change the cambelt whilst its off thats what steve did. the water pump is made out of hollow plastic and on steves just shattered!!

The car has only done 40k and is only just 3 years old, so a bit annoyed water pump has gone!! Like you say the problem is the time element, the part is cheap but its not the easiest place to get to, oh well, not much choice i guess, il have to pay the money

If it is waterpump then yes unfortunately it is a hefty job. While they are doing it though i'd make sure to change the cambelt too, no point using the old belt etc on it. May add up the costs but worth it in the long run.

^^^^^Agreed with A_A, get the lot changed while it's in bits.^^^^^

Also, how 'just over three years' is it? You could try for a goodwill payment from SEAT UK. Probably won't get anywhere but it's worth a try.

if only 11 days over then deffo go for a good will 50/50, people have got it with more than 11 days over mate

do not pay for all of it, get in contact with seat customer services at once

edit,

a failed (plastic) water pump impeller is a known fault and has caused VAG to introduce a better quality metal one

think about it

yep any common fault ypou should be able to get it all done under warrenty i wouldn't even go for a 50/50 go the whole hog mate if my car broke down 11 days after the warrenty ran out i would be in there screwing but thats just me :D

deffo 3 years or 60k miles

the 1st year is from seat and the 2nd and 3rd are from the dealer you bought the car from although you can go to any seat dealer you like

as said deffo 3 years and deffo do not pay for all of it and try to not pay for any of it

11 days is nothing mate, they pay out way over 11 days and by the sounds of it you have the very well documented plastic water pump pimeller fault

any help needed let us all know, we are all behind you [B)]

Thanks for that, you`ve been very helpful. Im going to see what I can do, car actually went wrong on Sat, which was 7 days after it was 3 years old, how annoying!! I may well be in touch if I need any technical info from you, but I think SEAT should put there hands in there pocket, esp if this is a common and known fault - il keep you posted!

Very common problem, caused by a cheap plastic impeller.

While they are doing it, be as well doing the timing belt at the same time... £250 is a really good price if you ask me.

Work all completed by local dealer, and have heard back from SEAT, they have agreed to go 50/50 as a gesture of goodwill !! helps ease the pain a little. Fingers crossed no more problems :)

bet you feel better about it all now, did the dealer agree that it was a common fault and how much did they sting you ???
