Urgent Help Required! Electric widow not working

Confused_Blonde

Hi guys!
First of all i'm new here and really don't have a clue about cars! Basically my electric window stopped working last night. The window is stuck down in the door and whenever I try to get it back up the motor makes a noise, then a couple clicks and thats it. :(

So I took a screw driver and various other random tools to her and removed the plastic door cover bit. Removed a few screws from the metal one too but have now decided that I really don't have a clue what im doing! So umm...what do you think is wrong with my car and what do I need to do to fix it??

Havn't got time to take it to the garage and would rather try and do it myself to prove a point to ex bf!!

Thanks all for reading, any help appreciated!

Is it on the drivers side? did it make any sort of clunk when you were putting it down? If you have the door card off can you see the window on the runner (where it sits on)?

It sounds as tho the window mechenism could have packed up! I think this may be a common fault with VWs, and we share the same parts!!! Can you see insde the door at all? May be worth putting some light preasure on the window whilst pressing the button 'UP' and seeing if it helps?!?!?!

it's possible that the cable (wire) has jumped off and can be sorted, you'd need very strong fingers!! however it's more likely either the cable has snapped or most likely one of the plastic clips which hold the ends of the cable have broken, and you can't buy new ones (which ought to be approx £2 each) you will have to buy a new mechanism (without motor which sounds OK)approx£70 or secondhand bits but the clips will be tired and if you pay for labour not worth the risk. best of luck

Thanks everyone. In the end I admitted defeat and got ex bf's best mate to have a look, (i know harsh ey?). Turns out the cable has snapped and so hes guna take Tallulah in to the garage where he works and get her sorted sometime this week. In the mean time he managed to pull the window up and jammed some carboard down their to hold it up.

Again thanks for your help!
