urgent help many probs

hi all i have recently purchased a 1.4 ibiza s and am repeatedly finding new problems.

- when the engine warms up and on the motorway it slips out of 5th gear.

- it revs randomly, dropping very low when idle and then back high again. sometimes cutting out completely.

- there is a tapping noise, i checked the cams and they all seem ok.

- the main concern is that when i accelerate quite quicly there is a load bang and judder. i first thought it could be the exhaust knocking but had a mechanic check and he rules this option out.


I am a new seat owner had acorsa b4 but rolled it down the lanes.

Tried turning your distributer to sort out the revs

Have you tried having the gearbox checked out, the slipping out of 5th thing sounds like that could be the problem.

Change the oil and drive the car a bit to help reduce the hydraulic tappet noise.

Clean out the throttle body and throttle sensor to help sort out the idling problem

See someone about the fueling as it sounds like its running too rich/lean and that causes the banging and judder

As for the gearbox problem, I'm not too sure. All I know is that once the oil warms up its viscosity is reduced (is more runny then sludgy) and maybe because something is wrong with the gearbox mesh, when the oil isn't very "thick", it slips out of gear

thanks for help so far i will start some work tomorrow and get bak to tell you how i get on.

also another quick point is it common for the car to go through fuel faster than i can put it in?

It will be if it's running rich - see above suggestions about that.

also if u like having a heavy right foot.
otherwise sounds like its running rich.

Clean the sensors and TB to help the idle issue.

oil and filter change and a good drive should sort out ur tappet noises.

ive renewed the oil and cleaned the filter this does seem to have helped.

now to solve the other problems
