Upgrading from non climate control

Would it be possible to upgrade a car with basic heater controls, so that it used the climate control unit?
I know you need sensors for the temp measuring, but would it work with out these?

i think tbh it would be a lot of hard work and a costly exercise.

I could get the unit for £70, but thinking about it im not sure how it would be able to control the air flow direction
