Hello

I was messing about with my airbox the other day and forgot to plug my MAF in, so when on the way to work I noticed no power or kick after 1,500 revs.

Took me a minute to realise what I did and fixed it but would this cause any major problems??

just had a good idea 2, my missus is always driving my car like a woman possessed  and it does my nut!! Could I unplug the maf and let her slug round town for abit!! or would i destroy the MPG? and stuff?

I will just make some engine part up and say its broken...

The dephibulator is damaged and it costs a lot of money! but is ok to drive cos i have by passed the engery drive with a screw driver....

It will muck your MPG up (most maf faults are diagnosed with poor mpg and lack of power) and it will register on the ecu as a fault. Not a problem as it will drive fine with it re-connected, but if you take it to the dealers 6 months down the road, and they plug it in they will probably call you and tell you to buy a new MAF as the ECU will have a fault logged.
Problem is, the maf might be fine and you will end up buying something you don't need.
My advice........ leave it plugged in and get the fault code cleared so if it does go faulty in the future, you can rule out "the time i messed the Mrs about".

I think that an ECU reset by disconnecting the battery for 30 mins will clear the code, but not 100% sure.

It will also lose your trip computer settings too ... oh, and you'll need the radio code too!

I don't think it does, but without plugging it into Vagcom straight after, you wouldn't know for sure so still run the risk of being told its buggered.

Your wife sounds like a woman who appreciates a finely-tuned TDI. Why take away her fun?

But you might disconnect the MAF for a day or two, then tell her the car needs different chip tuning, or a bigger turbo, or a bigger FMIC. You know, just as a way to get her complete support for some mods that she might otherwise consider frivolous.
