OK, OK..... so i have found it now! However would this be refering to the problems i have starting her from cold ( not when warmed up) ??? It doesnt happen all the time but produces alot of smoke when it does.

The smoke doesnt smell really oily or fuel like. But it starts almost whitish and then goes dark greyish black. Doesnt do it all the time ( started first time today!) The smoke last for about 10 seconds then just fades away. Its a petrol cupra.
Checked the codes again after clearing them a few days ago and nothing has come up. I have noted that i have the old type coolant sensor which apparantly is unreliable.

Quick update to this..... Note that this kind of follows on from my previosu post on start up probs.
Been to garage to be checked out. After clearing the codes the other day nothing has since shown up. Also it has started first time twice in a row after playing around with the leads from the coolant sensor!
The garage also did a series of other test including compression test etc........ Found no fault.
I have a code reader now so been told to carry in car and next time it wont start to check codes straight afterwards and go back to them.
A interesting point they made was that sometimes the sensors can get confused by a build up of resistance in the wires etc and it can make it think that the temp is totally different to what it actually is. As there is natuarally more resistance when cold the fact that it doesnt do it when the engine has warmed up could ring true with this.
So if anyone has had this probem and changed the sensor but still has it, its worth getting the wired checked as it wont always show as a fault because all it is doing is causing the computer to think it is one temp when its another rather than no reading at all (faulty!)
I trust this garage alot as have used them for over 6 years with 4 different cars and alway been honest and fair ( know a reasonable amount about cars so know when im being had!)
Best bit was despite having it in the workshop for a couple of hours they didnt charge a thing, even said sorry for not being abole to confirm if it would be ok in future or not! So i hope this plug is allowed but if you are in Southampton or near by the garage is Cadnam Garage off J1 M27 opposite Cadnam Garden centre.
