how you mounting it, or are you playing by ear.

The business side in me says if you can undercut the big boys that much then may be worth putting some kits together

is the saving that much??

Here's a picture.

Mounting - Think i'm going to have 2 bars welded to the top of cooler so that i can bolt it to the crash bar.

Piping - I'm thinking of one of two options at the mo.

1) Using the Intercooler hard pipe from an LCR, TT, S3 to run from the turbo along with a couple of silicon elbows, and silicon pipes to the Inlet.

2) Use silicons and a section of striaght pipe to mimmick the Forge setup.

Ultimately, haven't 100% decided yet!!

oh right, had'nt seen the intercooler before. Surely this is gonna end up quite restrictive due to the amount of pipeing. You mind an increase in lag due to extra distance for air to flow. but i take it you have thought about that, plus more roo needed for the piping

I see what you're saying.....BUT

If copying the route that the Forge kit takes, i don't forsee any noticeable lag issues. I'm sure the guys using the Forge kit would have reported an increase in lag if that were the case.

i dont think it will be restrictive if the piping is going to be the same a forge, are the two bits on the top of the cooler threaded? you could use them rather than wellding bits on, anless you know a good ali welder.

Was going to go this rute myself, I've seen intercoolers that have the same dimensionas the A&M intercooler on ebay and been tempted. I just ain't no good with bending a mandrel pipe so I would be using straight piping and samco elbows. I think I added the cost up and it was about £380 all in fitting it myself.

Good luck post some pics up when you finish and keep us updated.

Olly - Yeah those are threaded lugs. Yeah, might be easier bolting a couple of fixing bars there.

Alpha - The cooler was £130, and i've priced up the Silicon at £110. Still need to price up mikalor clamps etc, and some straight sections of ali pipe, but all in all, i reckon i can do it under £300.

could always get a cheap cossie intercooler, i know a few punto boys have gone this route.

sorry i assume the forge one was like the mk4 intercooler and both inlet and outlet on the same side, did't realise they went round the long way too. i suppose they must have thought about all that when they designed theres then,

anything has got to be better than the crapy side mount, Have you got to relocate the temp sensor at all r are you gonna mod the old pipe and use that one.?

That'll look good, if you can mimmick the forge setup, then that'd be a good idea, plus it would give scope for a winter summer intercooler for those who want to keep a shiney intercooler through the summer! LOL

The forge kit does take both inlet and tubo runs up the same side. But, if you think about how long the run to the turbo is using the forge route...ie: under the car, up and use hte existing Ibiza hard pipe.....i doubt it's any shorter than going the long way round....ie: up the left hand side of the engine bay as you look at it.

Gonna try and mod the existing pipe with the temp sensor. If that doesn't work, then i know someone who could fab up a new pipe and sensor holder.

To be honest i reckon theres more pipework to go around the engine rather than up and directly over the engine like the forge one.
