evening all,

had a coil pack down on Tuesday, changed it yesterday for a new one, waited over night and my engine management light had gone off, decided to plug in VAG-COM tonight, and I don't seem to have an option to clear the faults but 6 faults were found?

here is my log:

I have tried going to the engine module and clearing them, but I get an error saying controller not responding, my 'free' version is unlocked, I have cleared a fault before.

Disconnect the battery for 5 minutes and then reconnect. This has happened because you haven't disconnected the battery whilst changing the coil pack.

Hmm, I can see this being a possibility, I will try this next month when I change the remaining 3, but why am I unable to clear the faults only clear the log in VCDS?

Ah, understood. I had a similar problem myself recently. Open circuit faults come with some cheap coil packs. They weren't "Berlt" ones in a black box by any chance?

I swapped mine for a Lemark coil pack and the fault was gone. All four of mine are Lemark ones and I have no problems with them.

See I thought the same thing too, but I did some searching on the Bosch ones and no body seems to have a problem with them, got them from a local motor factors. When checking to see which one had failed, I unplugged each one till one made no difference. Could this be the cause?

No, not the cause because the system clears and self tests each time the car is started. The problem is with the coil pack. Take it back and get it replaced.

Yes, the resistance from the coil pack is incorrect. Mine was the same. Ran perfectly but threw the engine management light on with an open circuit fault. EML= Mot fail. Get them to replace the coil pack with an OEM or Lemark one.

Got the multimeter out today and measured the resistance of each cool pack with similar results throughout.

Up to you my friend, but I guarantee you that changing the coil pack will solve your problem. From your fault codes, all 4 cylinders are showing the problem. I'm guessing that all 4 coil packs are non-genuine?

3 are genuine, and the one I replaced is a Bosch, I may return it and try change it for a Lemark, then replace the rest with Lemark ones if they solve the issue.

In theory, a ropey coil should only throw a fault code for the cylinder it sits on. Not sure why all 4 are doing this if 3 are OEM coils.
