I have done a search but could only really find info on Goodyears, seem very popular here!

Anyway the tyres I am currently looking at are;

Falken fk452
Continental sport contact 3
Bridgestone RE050

What does everyone think of these?

I currently have a mix, new Maxxis Victra on the front which uses a similar tread pattern to the Falken and actually work quite well in the wet, but the road noise is terrible, they sound like a tractor tyre, and Contisport 2's on the back which are down to about 2-3mm and slide around on wet or greasy roads, but are still pretty good in the dry.

i've had the bridgestone RE050 on my civic but not very pleased with it.

in the wet it does not have much grip and they dont last long.

i've got the conti 3s (225/45 R17) and i think they're great. haven't used the others so i can't really compare though.
they have excellent grip in the wet

RE050's out of the frame already then!

What are the Falken like in the dry? Can imagine them being quite good in the wet with that tread pattern, although both the Maxxis and Toyo with similar pattern I found were not all that good in the dry.

Conti 3's sounding good :)

I've had Bridgestone's on most of my previous cars and have to say they've been a lot better than brands costing a lot more... However I've a set of Hankook Z212's on my MK2 Ibiza and find them really good for the cost..

I had the Falkens and were dissapointed.

Yes they're cheaper but I think it shows as they never had as much grip as the Dunlop Sport Maxxx that were on before them or the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics that replaced them.

They were also noiser, harder to turn the steering wheel and a crashier ride.

I know my opinion is not shared by most who've used them though.

some may say lala land....
got falken fk452 on front and toyo proxies t1-r on rear and so far so good, but the falken on front is taking a little used to compared with dunlop sp9090 i did have
seem to slide more or at least give that impression

will try for a little longer and possibly think about swapping over again and see what toyo on front are like.

i got falkens not sure on model will have to check,

they have an odd looking patern with what appear to be tods or holes here and there i assume for checking tread depths at different areas of the tyre ,

they seem pretty good wet and dry , had pirrellis on on before which were quite new when i bought the car , and didnt last a great length of time or milage,

Have had the FK452s for a while all round, and i am just about to put the second set on the fronts. I think they are about the best balance of performance against price. I think the front have been on just shy of a year so around 10K miles. The handling is very good, obviously you can make the car break grip if you try, but that is true with any tyre. Wet grip is good, but the dry grip is also good when the tyre is warmed up.

These have given me plenty of fun on roundabouts, i know there are better tyres out there such as the GSD3, but you need to bear in mind how often you want to drive at the limits of the car, as this is the only time you need the extra grip.

The extra money for the goodyears would be better put towards a new set of anti roll bars which would make a much bigger difference.

Get the Falkens, you won't regret it

Had the Bridgestones previously, great tyre, amazing grip in the dry and good feel in the wet, felt really confident with them....BUT they lasted 9k. Don't think id have them again unless i could afford it.

Now have the Goodyears on, love them give me all the confidence in the world, and even better than the Bridgestones in the wet. As or wear I think they are going to last longer than the Bridgestones, probably achieve 12-13k which is better.

Just a point, its very difficult to compare tyres when on different cars (i noticed the civic owner above didn't like the Bridgestones). A friend has just placed FK452's on the rear of his C220cdi and hates them, states they never get warm and there's not a lot of grip, and another friend bougt the GYA's as i did, however his Focus ST doesn't get on with them the TC kicking in all the time, which is (on reading STOC.co.uk) seams to stem from the stability control and having different levels of grip on front/rear axles.

Goes to show as the FK452's are highly rated on hear as are the GYA's

Hope this helps
Steve

I think if you have the money then go for Goodyear Asymmetric (best tyres I've had). If you're a little strapped for cash then go for Falken 452s (Not as good as GY, but best performance for price).

I'm on my second set of Goodyear Eagle F1's (GS-D3) and I really can't fault them, great in the wet and dry! Will be needing new fronts soon, if I can't get the GS-D3's I'll be going for the new F1 Asymmetric :)

Prices for a 225-45-17 fitted from mytyres.co.uk

Falken 452's £81
Goodyear Eagle F1's GS-D3 £95
The new F1 Asymmetric £97.50

After doing some research I've decided to go for the Continentals, they worked out only a tenner more than the Falkens from where I have ordered them so hopefully they turn out to be good!
