Hi folks, I hope all is well.

Got to replace rear driver side tyre asap as hit a lovely nail.

I'm assuming I'm okay to just swap out new tyres so they match on the axel. So two new tyres (different brand to factory originals) on the rear.

There was some confusion on the VW R forums when I had the golf R about having to swap out ALL tyres but that was deemed to apply to permanent 4x4 cars?

So I'd be keeping the fronts and replacing both rears. I've only got 8k on the car anyway so not much lost on the factory fitted ones.

Hi @tomek_olo
I was kind of asking people here what they have done.
I’ve searched the forums and seen older posts about the old 300 4Drive model which appears to support the above.

On VWROC there are a lot of posts regarding this issue with people asking. Doesn’t seem as common on this forum.

I’ve gone with the above anyway. Got the new tyres on the rear (matching pair) and left the original ones on the front.

I had changed tyres due to a similar problem so did as you suggest. Ensured the tyres on the sam exle were the same. Ending up having to do the fronts not long after as managed to get a nail in the fronts aswell.

Yes, I am not worrying about it. I've been on the VWROC and the Audi forums and they are suggesting the same. There are a few threads on this forum regarding it but not as many. I have kept the good rear tyre as a spare in case I get a flat in the fronts. My service was done about 3000 miles ago and the tyres were 7 on the rear and 6.7 on the front, so not much wear. I will just replace both fronts as and when needed and swap them around again (so future new tyres on the rear).
