lower profile gives better gripping performance as there's less play in the tyres as you go round bends...but if you're looking for comfort and less road noise then 16's with 50 profile are better

i'm goin slightly wider to 215/40 17s once my p-zeros are done

I recently had 205/50/16s fitted a couple of weeks ago (mainly due to tyre shop only having 1 205/45/16 left) but it made a huge difference to road noise. (don't know how much this was due to new tyres or the extra height of sidewall)
they scrape against the inside of the arches if ye hit a large bump in the Road at speed, but thankfully that doesn't happen too often

just had a thought i could get a before and after pic up soon for comparison, i think looks-wise it does raise it up a bit :(

cheers lads.

another question.

as i only need 2 tyres, would you reccomend putting the 50's on the back or
the 195's on the front?

moneys a bit tight at the minute and needs testing on friday:cry:. and i can get either tyre part worn:redface:

hopefully thats all it will need.

Is it not illegal to have different sized tyres on the car at that same time?

ie. 205/45/16 on front and 205/50/16 on the back or different widths ie. 205 on back and 195 on front?

I reckon you would benefit more from having wider tyres on the Front, more Grip cornering.

As for it being illegal to run different tyre sizes - i don't know- but if it is, would that not make it illegal to drive round with your spare wheel on (if it's not an alloy)?

most supercars have wider tyres at the rear compared to the front. Some even have bigger diameter wheels also :)

I know what you mean, but their wheels are different sizes so have to have larger tyres.

On the same size of wheel, surely the tyres have to be that same size? No?

My spare wheel in the Ibiza was 205/45/16 on a steelie, the same as the 205/45/16 on the alloys.

Not so sure where the pick up for the speedo is but in other cars i have had changing the rolling distace of a tyre alters the actual road speed in relation to the speedo speed i.e larger tyres than std 205/50's give more speed than indicated ( whatch the revenue grabbers ) Just a thought?

Sorry about the panic. Just checked the diference is only about 1mph @ 60mph

You can get the difference using the tyre size calculator google "miata tire calc" (I can't post URL's yet otherwise would supply full URL)

running 205/50/16s will leave you travelling 3% more than the speedo
