Tyre Pressure Warning Light

The tyre pressure warning light on my 2.0 TDI (140) has now been illuminated for perhaps a couple of years and will not extinguish by pressing the re-set button on the centre console.

My fault probably, as I switched off the ignition and re-started the car whilst on the move - had frustratingly gone into limp mode (that's another on-going, but thankfully fairly intermittent story).

Does anyone know what sensors this works off?

The tyre pressures are fine BTW.....

Thanks for reading.

The TPMS system on these is a passive one, so it gets feedback from the ABS controller.

If everything is running ok, and it truly is a gremlin then you can have it coded out with VCDS, then the car won't think it is installed and the dash warning will go.

I retrofitted it to my last Golf and it really is just a few skinny wires that go to the cluster and ABS ECU, coding it out just means you have a redundant button.

Does the cluster beep when you try to reset it?

Many thanks for the reply. It's all a bit over my head TBH, but then I am always amazed at the depth of knowledge people have - where's the 'embarassed' smiley?

It no longer beeps, but the warning light simply extinguishes and illuminates again when the button is pressed.

Would the procedure you describe be one that most reputable auto electricians or garages could perform?

I took the car to the local Volkswagen garage for its last major service and they investigated, but did not offer any advice - surprise, surprise... Then again, they also failed to recognise that the replacement sump delivered to them was actually the correct one, but lacking the blanking plate for the oil level sensor!

Thanks again and any further advice/comments gratefully received. :1st:

Hey

Anyone with VCDS (a VAG diagnostic cable) can change your coding, it is literally a one minute job and the car won't know it is installed.

The beauty of that cable though is it may well give the fault diagnosis, so you could recitify it without killing it off.

Post up your location, there are plenty on here with VCDS including me (Durham).

Sadly, I'm a bit out on a limb in North Norfolk.

I live at Skeyton, near North Walsham - postcode NR10 5AR, just in case anyone on here able to help is relatively close by (in Norfolk terms).

Thanks again,

Richard

Very many thanks Skard.

The eBay link worked perfectly and I have sent him a PM, so finger's crossed it will all get sorted - will let you know.
