Does/has anyone use an electronic tyre pressure monitor ? the type that shows you the temperature & pressure from a transmitter in your tyres valve, I'm thinking of getting one as 205/40/17's are difficult to tell by looking as they are so low profile & manually checking them is a pain. Any recomendations -good or bad.

the electric tyre valve jobbys are just anouther part to go wrong imo also if on the car standard like on the renault megane 225 if they break it causes car to go into limp mode as this happend to my mate and cost a fortune to repair (for what it is and how useless it is) i normally put 32psi in mine front and rear every now and again i check and adjust accordingly

Yes I know the Renault ones are crap, I think thier sensors are made by Beru.
The system I've been ofered has Siemens sensors & they sell them to other companies that make systems for artic lorries. I found one on the Bosch website, but no price or suppliers:doh:

Some of the cheap Chinese made ones appear to quite good & can be had for under £100, some UK sellers are rebadging them & selling them for £200 - £300 (similar price to the Bosch or Siemens systems) When you look at the statistics of high speed tyre failures from some tyre companies, most are preceded by a rise in temperature or gradual loss of pressure that these systems would alert the drive to before a potential blowout at speed.

chances of having a blow out with good condition tyres at sensible driving are very very slim, so I dont think it warrants the expense.
