Have been having a few small issues since fitting a decat downpipe.
1. A fluttering noise, very light metalic sound to it. Only hear it when gently accelerating into the turbo range(3k) and lifting off
2. When flooring accelerator whilst crusing, a gear(or two) is dropped and revs increase and you feel the clutch clamping but then, revs dip 100rpm(1 notch) and then it keeps accelerating.
3. From a standstill,t/c off, s-mode, it short shifts in 3rd at at 4krpm, other gears are fine.(1&2 holds on the redline for quite a while)
4. Sporadic white/greyish smoke comes out, after coasting to a junction/lights etc and then re-applying the gas.
5. Increase in oil consumption, 1.75-2.0L in 4k
Theories
1. DSG Torque limit hit
As I am stage 2, but with decat 3"therefore big gain in torque, itg intake, uprated intercooler could that be enough to take me up to the limit when dropping gears quickly, and flooring it from a standstill with t/c off. Maybe it dosent short shift in 1 and 2 because of wheelspin decreasing force picked up by torque sensor
2. Barings worn on turbo
Explains poor pickup of rpm when gears dropped and oil usage, maybe audable metalic flutter noise? People have reported white smoke with damaged turbos on other cars. People did warn me that a decat could cause this because of lack of back preassure with a decat but the actuator should open to stop turbo spinning to silly speeds.
3. Actuator
I dont know much about this although I have been doing some reading over the last day or so. Basically, it opens when a certain max boost has been reached to stop the turbo spinning any further. Problem is that if it dosent close properly you will be leaking boost into exhaust. The turbo would have to spin more to create the requested boost by the map which may not even be reached anyway
Could this create a puff of smoke? I remember vrsy said he had problems with smoke when his map requested x amount of boost which would never be reached becase the actuator opens before that level so the turbo was at maximum rpm constantly and that created the smoke.
If I have mis understood any of the "mechanics" please feel free to point out. Any ideas, advice, or opinions are welcome
In other news I now have the LOBA HYBRID TURBO!
