Engine in limp mode, glow plug light flashing, WORKSHOP warning on MFD, prior to limp mode it had almost zero pull until 3500rpm, fault code P0299 under-boosting, sucked on the actuator vacuum pipe and it won't even hold a vacuum just from the strength of my lungs.

Looks a bit fiddly to replace and set-up, i don't own any crescent spanners and the cost of buying any other extra relevant tools might be outweighed by the cost of just taking to a garage.

So onto my question; how much is the average cost to replace the turbo actuator at a garage? seen the actuators for sale from reputable sites for around £100 (cheaper if you buy an eBay jobbie which I'd rather avoid).

I understand it was a common issue on the early CR engines, so much so VW had to create a repair rather than replace the turbo which was previously recommended, my mk2 being an 09 fits the category.

It's £110ish for the genuine actuator, about the same again for fitting.

You want to take it to a specialist that knows what they're doing so it'd be setup correctly.

price seems par for a around an hours work, i have a local VW/Audi specialist i've used before, just wanted some ball park figures for the budget.

It's more like 2 to 2.5 hours. Dealers are allowed to claim 130 minutes for replacement (excluding fault finding time) when doing it under warranty.

It's a very fiddly job to do.
