Triple beep when starting up

Guest
Hi,

Sometimes when I start up (MkIV 1.4SX) I get a triple beep and I have no idea what it is. It doesn't seem to be related to the amount of petrol or temperature. Seems to be quite random.

Does anyone have the same problem or know what it is.

Cheers

Nope, all is normal with no warning lights.

The dealer didn't know and i'm hoping its just a dodgy sensor of some sort.

low brake fluid? check the level and take the lid off then on again and see if it happens again.

I'll have a look this w/e, seems unlikey though as the beeping stopped for a few months and has recently reappeared (and now is quite frequent).

I thought 3 beeps was handbrake up while moving?

In my case the beeps are as I start the car, when the car is still parked.

mine does this but i thiunk it is only when its warm which would be the high temperature of the engine coolant

I have 3 beeps on startup too

here are some things I know about it

if you get into the habit of putting the handbrake off before you switch on the ignition you may well see the handbrake light flash once in time with the first beep

also there is a small plastic button/nipple on top of the brake fluid reservoir just behind the filler cap, if you press it quite hard it fools the car into thinking the fluid is low and you get the same 3 beeps and one flash of the handbrake light (providing the handbrake is off)

so far I have found that if you start the engine immediately (don't stop the key half way) you don't seem to get the beeps

I hope this helps people

Three beeps

Try starting the car without the stereo on... my Polo beeps three times if there is a traffic announcement stored in the memory.

3 beeps:brake pads need replacement

as posted before my car does the 3 beep thing sometimes on startup and it has only done 6000 miles so I don't think the pads are that worn yet

BTW I'm still starting the engine immediately and not waiting for dash lights to go out and so far I have had no beeps

Didn't think that the Ibiza came with brake pad sensors.

yeah I think they do come with brake pad level sensors (just a metal contact that touches the disk when the pad gets low and makes a circuit), but I don't know about it causing the 3 beeps

well a trustworthy guy told me that the fault is with the ABS ECU

you try getting the stealers to fit a new one, my local stealer won't hear of it although they have run out of ideas themselves
I think they are frightened of the price just in case it doesn't fix it
