Hi All

My traction control light is now on permanently on on my dash on my 52 plate Cupra R, just had it checked and it seems its a steering sensor thats gone, anyone had this happen if so how much would it be to have this fitted etc.... any advice or feedback would be really appreciated

Cheers Russ

The light has only stayed on since I had my 2 front tyres fitted, after driving the car away I noticed that the steering wheel was off centre in a dead straight line just to the left, would this throw up a fault and make the traction light stay on ??

I don't know, it sounds a bit odd - there is a angle sensor recalibration procedure you can do with vag-com (I think), might be worth a try.

Ah, if you're THAT dim [sorry] you're not going to manage it yourself. Find a VAG independant nar you and ask them.

My steering angle sensor went about 2 months back. Had mine done under warranty though! Sorry!!! ;)

Think it's around a tonne to get sorted if not under warranty... could be a bit out though.

Hope it gets sorted mate

steeering angle sensors are exxxpensive from the posts ive seen on here.
im not 100% tho. ive been havin probs with the other sensor in that area (on the steering column) the g200 acceleration sensor. ESP has loads of sensors all over the car. it has ESP yeah???
if so, search ESP or lateral acceleration sensor and they might help. I hav a fair few posts bout it on here myself and theres others.
Feel (phil) is right tho, you defo need pluging in to vag com, itl tell you exactly wot parts f**ked.

That's a good point - we've somehow jumped to the conclusion it's the steering angle sensor...

i had this problem. posted about it at the time.

you just need 5 mins with vagcom to re-zero the steering angle sensor.

the procedure's on the ross-tech site

worst case is it's not that, but again 5 mins with vag-com will tell you the actual error

Cheers guys

I had it plugged into a handheld computer unit at a local garage yesterday and he said it was the steering angle sensor the bloke said it would be around £250 to fit the part inc labour etc.... going back to the tyre place 1st to have my steering wheel lined back up first... would this fail the MOT ???

Ah, okay - I just suddenly though that we might be jumping to conclusions. In my experience, LCR's usually track to the left, usually have a slightly non straight steering wheel and usually are a bitch to track.

They've perhaps adjusted the tracking at the tyre place? Or did they take it for a test drive? Check your rims.

vag-com recalibration is dead easy, it really does only take five minutes.

Yeah they did the tracking when they fitted the new tyres bud, just hope I dont have to have a new sensor fitted as I was going to have the LCR Re-mapped in a couple of weeks, taking the car to a specialist next week, I have used them before to solve a engine temp sensor issue cam up with 4 faults, Volks/Seat/Audi specialist so I hope they can sort me out
