Ok so with a few trackdays coming up, i have a spare set of LCR wheels for the fronts, and was wondering what to do with regards to tyres. Now would you just get a pair of buget tyres on there as i know im gonna rip the arse out of them anyway, so whats the point of spending lots of money on a brand name for this, or shall i just get some slightly better tyres but part worns, as there not going to be used on the road at all, kill them on a session, and just buy some more part worns for the next trackday i do?
Your thoughts and sugestions please guys, im in 2 minds as to what to do here.

Cheers

MATT

I'd be tempted with the part-worn's...obviously depending on tread thats left & the price.

The budgets if anything are going to get as trashed on the TD, and will prob end up giving you less of a TD experience due to the reduced grip.

Matt

I currently run Yoko Parada's for my track tyres, bout £100 a corner

Not bad on grip and have done 3 now plus a fair few road miles as didn't get round to swapping them again after 1 of the days

Will be getting some proper track tyres once the Yokos have had it

Wouldn't recommend cheapies, as said about it will most likley ruin your day imo

Ralph, cheers dude, its all food for thought, TBH i could do with 4 tyres all round, so i may just go and to that and use my old tyres on the front, they may cover another track day for each pair, but i was trying to get out of paying 400+ for new tyres all round just at the mo, and was looking to get two fronts for around £100. Think im being a tad unrealistic thou. Just looked on Ebay and there is not a lot on tbh, may nip to supertyres on the way home tomorrow and see what they can do for me, may have something kicking about. Are you coming to the coombe trackday or donny in July??

Smooth...I got a Costco card & i'm only in Maidstone, so if they have anything that "fits the track day profile" then more than happy to meet up & save you some bucks...

PM / Hotmail me if any good.

I've not tracked the car yet, so I might be totally off here, but...

You put decent tyres on your car normally for the improved grip at 'normal' driving speeds on public roads. You wouldn't put crappy cheap tyres on the car just in case you struggle with grip and it ruins the way your car drives.

So when you take the car on a track, surely tyres are even more important? Speeds are higher, cornering speeds are far higher, the demands put upon your car are higher and therefore the grip you need is also higher? Surely going flat out into a corner at track speeds is going to stress the car more than at road speeds, so you have more chance of heading straight off into a tyre wall! Therefore tyres are more important on a track than on a road, in terms of keeping your car where you want it!?

yeah makes total sence to me, i think i have a plan now anyway, i have a brand new pirelli p zero in the garage, put that on the rear, buy another one (the rear's are nearly on the limit anyway, take the Goodyears off the back, swap them onto the spairs, as these are only going to do 2 sessions at castle coombe, and jobs a good un :). Then i can get 2 new fronts next month, and i have 4 new road tyres, and my old sets that are nearly done, i can use for the trackdays :)
