Ive been browsing autotrader and came across a few toyota celica gt4s. I never considered this as an option for a car but i thought id phone up the insurance company just to get a quote. the girl came back with a price and it was just £50 more expensive than the 150 leon. Any of you guys know much about these cars as im considering a change.

Yes! Had a GT4 for while a few months back.
One i had was an import. Lovely car though on the heavy side. Handling is superb with raw unadulterated power. Very juicy though. Only problem is there are alot of shabby examples about and decent one would probably set you back around 6k maybe more..

If i were you, do what my brother has done..Buy a newer 190bhp Celica then get Nitrous kit fitted (i believe he paid around £700)..
You'll have a rocket! But then that would be the case with any car with this fitted!

Which GT-Four though? ST165, ST185 or ST205?

Both are good cars, but the ST165 and ST185 are getting a bit too old now, so I'm going to assume you mean the ST205.

If so, great car. Very fast, very 'safe' but good handling and very expensive to run. Expect early twenties to the gallon on average. Not tooooo bad on servicing and parts, probably on par with the LCR really.

They are baby Supras and very tunable. It's quite easy to get big power out of them and they do take upgrades like that very well.

Will be a night and day difference to your Leon though, and not worth considering if you appreciate fuel economy in any way :)

My cuz got a st205 wrc model! Just fad! very quick due to twin entry turbo! bad thing are the back seats. kills the arse after a while. plus once they have been boosted they just miss!
look nice with big spolier and standard hid lights.

Jap = Crap!

sorry this is a VAG site not many owners will praise them

Narrow minded ones maybe not but I m sure others will have valid experiences. I ve have a Celica and the old Corolla 1.6Gti 16v. Even on a 1991 plate the engine on the Corolla was a gem and would handle like a go kart compared with the LCR. As already noted, its hard to find a good example because of the age factor.

reason i put this thread on was because ive got a tdi cupra which i love and i was surprised that the insurance (20yr old)was so low for the toyota as its a very quick car. Just wondered if any one could tell me if they were crap or ok. Compared to a LCR what are they like.

GT-fours have a tendency to eat gearboxes so make sure you pay close attention to that before you spring for one. You're also going to be looking for regular and short interval oilchanges because they can get very tappy and suffer big end issues, not to mention goosing the turbo. Check the brake discs too because they tend to warp under.. erm.. enthusiastic use ;)

Otherwise they're crackers and go like stink :)
