Towing Point on the Mk3

Ok guys, my clutch pedal went yesterday and as I was only ½ mile from home I got my dad to tow me back to my house.

Anyway I screwed my towing eye into the socket on the front of the car and tightened it, but as I was being towed along it gave way under the strain and I couldn’t fit it back in. Looking at it I think I’ve cross threaded the towing eye, which isn’t a problem as I can replace that, what I’m more worried about is the condition of the thread in socket attached to the car.

I’ve never taken the bumper off my car, so I’m unsure where it attaches to the car, can it be replaced? Is it attached to something like the crash bar of which I’ll need to replace the whole item?

Anyone had any similar experience?

Ok, just had a chat with our mechanical guys here and they are unable to salvage my towing eye.

So anyone know the part number. I have it sitting in front of me and all that is stamped into it is "SEAT" and "IDA3"

You know its a reverse thread on it originally yeah?

Yeah Phil, only after spending a few minutes working out why it wasn't screwing in, thankfully thats not when i cross-threaded it.

Managed to find time to get my bumper off last night and take a closer look, you're right HoocH, its some uber bolt holding it on, i had to get a mate to come over with his socket set as the sizes in mine didn't go up that far.

Anyway, its completed f00ked, so i'm going to go to SEAT today to see if i can get a replacement.
