Towbars and Factory Fit Parking Sensors

i've got a 2006 Leon with factory fit parking sensors and need to fit a towbar.

will the towbar trigger the sensors or can they be reprogrammed to accept it?

is a removeable towbar a more viable option?
if so, where is the best place to buy?

:help:

I guess it depends how close to the 'field of vision' of the sensors it comes.. stick it in reverse and test with a stick or something to see if there is a blind spot..

I had a removable towbar on my old A3.. was a Westfalia one from Towequipe - was excellent and completely invisible when the hitch was removed (check if it's the same for the Leon though).

On my parents freetrack the sensors automatically switch off when the towbar electrics are connected. Having the towbar on does not trigger the sensors.

The freetrack has pre-installed tow-bar electrics so once a trailer is hooked up it switches off the parking sensors and actives the trailer stability program. I'm not sure if this can be achieved on the Leon.

You will be best getting a removable towbar for the leon as I expect it will trigger the sensors everytime you have it installed.

Hi Guys,

Cant contribute to the parking sensor issue, but..... I have just had a tow bar fitted on my 07 Fr Tdi which I can highly recommend, it’s a 'Brinkmatic Advance 4467' which is a detachable swan neck design. I think this is one of the only tow bars that can be fitted to the new shape Fr's (the only one I am aware of).

I haven’t taken any pictures myself.... yet. But, I can refer you back to the original thread where I read up about it, there are a couple of pic's which should give you an idea:

I’m not sure how it would work for a non Fr mk2 because they don’t have the unpainted plastic bit of bottom bumper (technical terminology I know), the cover plate provided with this tow bar is plastic to match that of the Fr bumper.
