Hi Guys and Girls

I've just installed a Bosal tow bar, and most of the electrics to my Altea 2.0 TDI. As usual, the electric installation instructions are rubbish. I have figured out everything apart from the best method to get 25amps to the rear of the car. Does anyone know if there is a pre-installed power cable in the rear of the car or have a wiring diagram? I loath to run a power cable from the battery to the rear of the car undoing lots of trim etc.

Thanks
Tab

Hi Tab,
You will need to run a seperate supply to the rear of the car, as there is not a supply of this type existing.
I have done this in my Toledo to supply all my comms equipment, which is located in the boot.
The side trim is very tightly fitted and is a b*gger to get off, though if you are only running one wire, you may be able to tuck it under the edge of the trim.
More difficult though, is to get from inside the car to the engine compartment (and then direct to battery), but I did find a route in the end - not the best way to do it, but it was a solution - I can let you know this info if you want it.
The other alternative would be to connect it to the main rail of the fuse box under the drivers side dash - this is fairly easily accessible.

Out of interest, how did you connect all the main towbar electrics - did you have the trailer electrics pre-wire option?

Cheers,
John.

And of course, if you do run a new supply to the rear of the car, remember to fuse it at source :)

Hi & thanks for the reply,

Looks like I will be running a single power cable from the battery, though i may just make an attept to get to the main fuse box.

For the towbar electrics I fitted a bypass relay(no prewire option i was aware of). This device takes a very very small amount of electricity from the vehicle lights & boost this to the trailer, this stops the bulb faailure system activateing.
