Hi all,

Took my car down to a bit of private land the other day, and i tested it out to see what its capable of... and i found that in 5th im at redline at 120.. is this normal?

Ran out of road before i could change.. and my friend didnt want me to keep doing it lol.

Had the car scanned for faults the other week, and all i got was Lambda sensor fault but that could have been when the cambelt was changed right?

Is this normal behaviour for a mapped Cupra? supposed to be running 210bhp.. it pulls quite hard up to that point.. then starts slowing off.

Im being a bit neurotic i think... having a turbo has done this too me!

and i know i shouldnt be worried about it because i shouldnt be doing these speeds on the normal roads which i why i use a friends land :D

Lucky for you that your best friend happens to own the RAF and their airfields :p

I can't imagine that the gearing is too different for Cupra vs Cupra R is it? I would have though that 120mph would be 4th gear speed seeing as 3rd can hit 100mph

Maybe you have a boost leak and the car is struggling?

his parents own a reasonable amount of farm land :D the roads are pretty ****... but there is a line to follow... although he drives a car daddy bought so doesnt car if he breaks it!

I dont think the gearing is all that different either.. wouldnt vagcom tell me if i had a boost leak?

spose the only way to find out is to connect up a boost gauge right?

Not necessarily, it's worth checking all the usual hoses just in case. Do a run and see what your airflow is like, that'll be low if there is a boost leak.

I dont actually have vagcom a member here did it for me :)

I will have a gander at it later when i get it back from the garage.. it chirps from the DV (as it's reversed) and it does boost hard..

120 on the redline in 5th sounds a bit odd, should be closer to 130 iirc, and from youtube vids of folk hooring around

Lucky you finding a mate with some open land to play on.....

yeah maybe the gearbox is just suffering with old age.. as the car is on 100k now... unless the clutch is causing me grief.

Yeah it's nice having a friend with land... also helps if you want to work on the car as they have a barn too. bit of a trek to get to him but a good laugh.

Check the speedo is accurate using a GPS. Have the circumference of your wheels changed?

Also, a boost leak or something like that wouldn't cause you to go slower that you are expecting at the red line. It can only be down to your gearbox, clutch or wheels assuming your rev counter is accurate.
