Toledo Tdi-glowplug light flashing all the time

My dads Toledo Tdi has a slight problem. It starts all right but the orange 'glowplug' light flashes constantly when driving, the local dealer said it was nothing to worry about and there's no rush to look at it.

What do you guys think?

According to TDIClub, if the Check Engine Light isn't also on, then


- If the "glow plug" light is flashing while driving, check your brake lights! The brake light circuit is monitored by the engine electronics and this is the warning signal used in this case (among others). Burned out brake light bulbs will cause this symptom, as will a faulty or improperly adjusted brake light switch or a blown fuse for the brake lights.

Cheers Mik, so basically although the dealer said today that there's nothing to worry about my dad might have driven from Cumbria to London and back at the weekend with no brake lights.

My Seat Leon just started to do this also. The dealer looked at the car and said there was a problem with the fuel pump. did you find what was wrong with yours?

Yep it was the old 'brake light switch' problem

Tonight my glow plug warning light started to flash on my Arosa 1.7 SDi.
Haven't got a manual but guess it would be the glow plugs failing, so bought some new ones in Halford.

Got home an went to take the first one out, and it's crossed threaded. just goes round and round. So, i left the bugger in there. Engine runs fine and not leak that i can tell. Is the glow plug subjected to cylinder pressure?

Then i looked on this posting, and it stated about the brake light problem. so i checked, and sure enough no brake lights... D'oh. Do halfords take back glow plugs, they cost me £30 for the set.

I've checked the brake light fuse, and it's ok. haven't have chance to check the blubs as it was too dark, and i'm on my own, and nobody the help me check. If the blubs are ok, i guess it's the switch... are they easy to come by?
