today i bought a new car. its fast as fuuuuuckcompared to my 1.4 but i still love my car. bought it as a project to do up and sell so its not something id be driving about in just neatening and getting rid.

well pleased with myself, i didnt think id actually do it but i did. now whosgot big balls :) ha.

its a neat little car for its age (95)and shifts well, lowered on 16s with full GTi spec interior and everything.

love it!! hope to make a bit of dollar on this baby
(oh and its not the one in the picture if you thought as much)

You'll do it up and not be able to sell it, they seriously win you over after a while, great cars love mine to bits. Nice to see someone reviving one instead of throwing it on a scrap pile or ripping the engine out to stick in a lesser car. :)

So how much you looking to sell it once tarted up out of interest?

What's the work that needs doing also?

It was yourself debating over 2.0 8v or 2.0 16v engine transplant. So, driven a 16v yet? What's your verdict over the two, each to their own ofcourse.

im picking it up on wednesday so i havent any pics, but i dont think i could ever scrap a car, even if you sell it for £50 say. i bought it witha blown head gasket but ive taken it for a punt and its a nippy little bleeder, love the speed, but what i intend to do is do it up, its got a couple of rust patches but these are in places which are easy to patch... ie: not the arches. and it just needs some bits replacing i reckon when its done itll be worth 8-900 easy so then ill be up a bit on money to buy another car and do that up... maybe. just saw this and thought itd be a pretty mint project. its already lowered and has alloys, and it looks really sporty. im not going to 'kit it out' just neaten everything up and make it lovely. already a very neat car though. will clean it when i get it back, bit of polish and ill post up a few pics. its a 2.0l 8v by the way but i still havent driven it properly due to the gasket gone.

probably wont get attatched to it cos im not going to be driving it just making it look nice and selling it. if i found the right car i may be tempted to swap my bits off my car but its got to be a beauty... and im sure i want a 16v

a guy in hull. really nice guy, had the car since he was 18 so probably been ragged a bit but with a new gasket i reckon itll be worth a fair bit. it does look nice, but hes sprayed the interior bits like i have but not as good :) mr big head here. so i think im going to spray them a really deep black so it makes it a bit more standard but a bit more sporty and classy... may appeal to future buyers i guess more.

stick some new car mats in from pound saver or whatever its called. cost a tenner and the best mats ive seen, just clean the car up mainly. neaten the parcel shelf after hes tuck some huge lumps of MDF under it for his 6x9s and stick spare wheel in.

I hope you've factored getting the head crack tested and quite possibly skimmed into your calculations, and have a contingency plan if the head is fooked... If the head is knackered, you may find you have a job finding a replacement for cheap. The engine code should be 2E IIRC for an early 8v mk2 Ibiza GTI - not sure what else (if anything) used this engine apart from early mk3 Golf GTI 8v's...

Incidentally, if you get someone else to do the head gasket for you, you're likely to be looking at about two days labour by time all the valve gear has been stripped out for the crack testing and machining the head flat (if required).

Oh, relatively small change in the big scheme of things but you might as well do the cam belt and tensioner while you've got the head off too...

mines done about 98000, just doing the head gasket today... its a right bitch getting the head off, especially how its never been off before, and the exhaust manifold bolts are rusted to froock. will be selling it in a coupleof months, maybe less if anyone wants to buy it? very neat car.
