At last I managed to video it, I have proof, watch out Frosts Seat I'm booking in and I'm on my way!
To cut a long story short, looks like I'm suffering from clutch slip - If you download this video clip (1.83mb, WMV, sorry about the wait from the host)

http://www.sharebigfile.com/file/50615/Rev-Counter.wmv.html

which I (not actually me, that would be dangerous;) ) managed to video last night on the way home you will see it.
This is in 5th Gear, 65-70Mph accelerating to 80Mph. As you will also see after the clip at other times it fine doing the same thing (Do you like my editing, oh yea:blink: )
Last time I took it in they 'test drove it' and found nothing... We will see..

Yep thats pretty much slipping...can be caused also by the DMF.. but the money is on the clutch has failed/failing...
Excately what mine did from 2k revs to 3k on cold days with the remap!

Filming yourself breaking the law probably isn't the best idea ;)

Good luck though :D

A - didn't film it, not that mad it was the Mrs in the passenger seat with seatbelt on (Am I in the clear?)

B - it's only the rev counter - could of said I was doing 160MPH!

C - if it was a petrol and not a TDI, I would of been doing 8mph at 2000 RPM:lol:

Link still works though, maybe only one download at a time?

Booked in with Frosts, Jan 15th! Hope it is still driveable!

I'd tell them to mind they're own business. They aren't allowed to drive them at 80 because they don't own the car, and you don't have to say where you drove it. You could be fortunate enough to have access to an airfield like i do and drive it as fast or slow as you want.
The fact is, if it's slipping it needs replacement before it gets worse. Only a matter of time before it starts to slip at 50mph.

AoS,

What milage has the car done, how old etc.??

I have 100% std FR TDi and have the same problem. Only 2 years old, and 37k from new (and I have done every mile of this).

I do not abuse the clutch, from previous experence - and my knowledge. And mightly pi55ed off that it is failing.

I have it booked in for the end of this month too. Seat UK have said that if it is afault part that they will replace as warranty. However, by the number of people with same complaint, it may well be "normal" wear...!...!...

I had this out in great depth with Seat UK and the nice chap on the phone had problems understanding me.

Quite simply, the major chunk of the price is labour, it's a 4 to 5 hour job @ £72 + vat per hour.

There is a nice chap on here who is looking at sourcing DMF for us - worth the wait i can assure you!

If the DMF is not faulty and the slip is down to a worn clutch, from what i extracted from SEAT UK, the clutch is NOT covered by warranty but the DMF is. By the time you've paid them to change a worn clutch, you could have had a full sachs racing clutch fitted by a specialist for almost the same money - the difference being that the Sachs part won't fail because it can handle the torque.

On the basis I love driving the Tdi, i figured it was throwing good money after bad to let the dealer anywhere near the car because if all they're going to do is replace one substandard part with another substandard one it's not exactly progress.

CLutch kit from a motorfactor - around £135
Allards friction plate - around £230
Labour on the above - around £200

Total just short of £600 and should handle stock torque and up to Phase 1 remap just fine.

If the DMF is responsible for the slip ( there were no indications that it was clutch OR DMF in mine) then a new DMF will cost around £330 + vat. I didn't have time to source one via my usual friendly trade channel. This added a sizeable chunk to the final bill.

This is where the price for a DMF comes into play, if you need a new one and the nice chap who is looking at this can get one .... at the price he should be able to get them for, it would be worth changing it anyway and treating the entire clutch assembly as 'disposable'. As i tried to explain to the bloke on SEAT customer services, with what the dealer would have charged me to fit a new clutch + vat + labour etc ...... whether they could have fitted a new DMF under warranty was neither here nor there.

Would be interested to hear what your Dealer can do for you and how you get on with the warranty side of things.

Morning mcspreader,
It's an 05 plate, standard TDI 150 no mods (revo etc), done 23, 900 and I got it in April 05, new, with 9 miles on the clock.. (those where the days!)

It's gonna be interesting what they say, whether it's warranty or not, I would say it was. You can't expect SEAT to say its normal wear and tear, new clutch every 25k, yea right, what the hell else is gonna go wrong with it! Bring on the A3 S line Quattro!
Fortunatly its a lease car so Arnold Clarke maybe able to put some weight behind it, but I'll find out and see what the dealer say, let you know. I've also got a warning light on the temp gauge coming up before ignition, doubt its connected but its all happening! :banghead2
