To much standard boost?

hi guys and gails,

i had a few problems with my 130 sport ibiza, i believed that the boost reaches 1.7 bar then levels to 1.4 bar, but my turbo was replaced with a garrett 1749A turbo from a 130 golf/bora, with a forge FMIC and the EGR valve disabled and with the CC stage 2 remap turned off

it was dyno'd demapped at 148.9bhp and the boost guage reads to much boost at times

it peaks at 2.1 -2.2 bar of boost at 1900! leveling to 1.7 at 2500 then rasing up to 1.9 at 3500-4500. There DEFI guages so there meant to be almost as accurate as reading the measured valve blocks!

why is it boosting up to 2.2 bar instead of 1.7 and with the map on it just max's off the scale none stop?

Good or Bad:):(:):(:)?

Boost leak maybe. Or maybe a hose is being crushed once you reach peak boost then gradualy going back to normal and boost rising back up.
Might be worth speaking to CC too.

Yes you can have too much boost.

148bhp and hittig 2.2 BAR? Its f00ked mate....

Vag-com ftw at this point. However not sure how long the turbo will last as they arent built for that sort of PSI

its something that i havent been sure about for some while, there doesnt seem to be any boost leaks when the car is up on the ramp in work with my mentor reving it a bit to get the boost up, there is no excess air or hissing noises, ive had the bumper off a few times recently and im 101% sure there nothing visable showing leaks

the car went into limb home mode 3 times within the month that the turbo was changed but that was during summer a case of turning the engine off and restarted it reset it back to drivable conditions, its been 5-6 momths and hasnt gone into limp mode since then! more to the point its boosting alot better.

How long has it been running this sort of boost? when was it rr'd? what torque figure did it get?

It isnt a boost leak.

Theres the dyno results from 2 months ago

The first reading is with the remap turned on

And the second is with the map turned off with a half hour break in between

Its been running this for 6 months, im planning to get the turbo hybrid'd in feb or march

and with ppl having the 17/20 vnt hybrid carried out, ppl are saying there getting about 2.0 bar or around that figure

dont know what to think of this?

Power is fine as is torque in all the above, so as said no boost leaks. Have you replaced your MAF? Might be worth looking at it, however if there is a problem with that, it would normally lead to a weird power output also

no lad, ive not replaced the MAF, ive got VAG-COM on my laptop to scan the car for faults, basic settings and to turn the remap off and on through 01 engine electronics, ive checked the MAF readings against accutal, (cant remember the valve blocks ) with my mentor, we road tested it and it was within tolerance by quite alot, ill try and record a video of this on the defi guage, for tomorrow possibly

has anyone had the 17/20 vnt hybrid carried out on there tdi ibiza

i know the 100 pd and 130 pd have a kkk series turbo with the 160 having a garrett, but has anyone done the turbo swap on it lets says in my case, having the 130 kkk swaped for a 130 golf/bora garrett 1749A turbo, and noticed difference, as well as what boost figures do you get? any dyno results would be greatly appricated!! ;)

A swopping from the KKK to garrett shouldnt cause this problem, its a strange one... id contact C-C shouldnt be boosting above 1.63BAR IMHO.

Only way to check is with VAG COM.

Gauge might be calibrated incorrectly.

Or you could have a boost leak which will make the needle go all over the place.

Doubt its really hitting 2.2 BAR. The ECU limits it.

I doubt that it makes so much boost.... I the dealer in my town to a remap company and my friend how runs the mother company had a leon cupra tdi with a 2.5 tdi turbo (and other mods) and his car was doing 1.8 BAR in over-boost and 1.5 bar constant and he had 230-240 hp on dyno. If you have vag-com make a log of the intake presure then decrease the value by 1000 mbars and then you have the real intake pressure. I think that your boost gage is not corectly installed.

Ps : please excuse my english, it`s a bit rust.
Ps2: I had lots of clients with golf`s 130 tdi and if I remeber corectly, with the most agresive remap it made about 1.5 bar in over-boost.

could this be an n75 fault? slow to react and so not opening the wastegate soon enough resulting in the boost spike?

all seems to be going to plan for getting the hybrid turbo set up done in early march, im may just as well leave the boost guages the way they are, but i might just sell them on if they continuesly maxing out with the hybrid done, ill see what happens and report it back to SCN

Thanks for you help guys! glad theres good fourms like this one, instead of any of my local crap ones, talking rubbish all the time ( shiny pounds )
