To go recaro?

Chaps,

Anyone had experience of both Recaros and std seats in an LCR and fancy throwing their opinion my way.. There is a slightly expensive for sale but with std seats and I wondered what the downside of the std vs Recaro.

Especially useful if someone has experience of using car seats (stage 2).

Thanks,

Dan

Well in my personal opinion the standard seats are fine so long as you don't need to do lots of long journeys in them. The reason I say this is that I chose the standard seats when I bought my LCR because everyone said they were really no different to the Recaro's. The fact is that the lack of adjustable lumbar support in the standard seats is actually causing me problems now (after 43,000 miles of sitting in them) and I find I get an aching lower back after long journeys.

I've just ordered a new Focus ST-3 and I'm really looking forward to the leather Recaro's and some lower back support. It's the only downfall of the standard LCR seats IMHO.

.......i find the std LCR seats quite alright for long trips [up to 2.5 hours no stops] and i have a torn disc in the bottom of my back!!!! :( my parents have an octavia TDi and they are bloody awful!!!! got loads of grief off those buggers!!!!

.....never tried recaro i'm afraid, but seen pics and they do look similar, maybe a bit more lateral support???

greyknight how u find the st i test drove one the other da but felt it was a bit boring and i thn drove th vxr and that was awfull

Well obviously I liked it as I bought one... I've already written a quick review somewhere on here, but as a guide compared to my LCR I would say the following about it:-

Better handling than the LCR
More stylish interior than the LCR
Much better engine sound and exhaust note than the LCR
Amazing torque range, almost zero turbo lag (okay, so not as severe as my car, but my car is Revo'd)
Good gearbox
Not so good boot space (but this is being rectified)
Rather light clutch pedal (but this suits me fine as my knee aches in the LCR when I'm stuck in a traffic jam)

The LCR looks slightly more aggressive than the ST, but the ST looks pretty cool, probably the looks equivalent of the standard Cupra.

That's what I think of it anyway!

I have the standards and im in the process of getting some reacros as they are IMHO far better for support and comfort.

The only real way is to sit in them but after doing a very long journey in a mates MK4 golf i was sold!

I never got them new as they stopped doing the recaro rear and that p155ed me off as it was the same price.

Wish i had got them now but then thats me, and we are all different!

Grey Knight:

What colour you getting your ST in, i was in Farnbrough showroom a month or so back, and they had the orange one in their showroom.. i was just about to put a deposit on one, but still dont know if i want an ST, and RS or stick with the Leon and have it chipped and have the suspension done.

Ive got the standard seats on my LCR, when i got it i wasnt too sure if they where recaro's or not, i was hoping they where a standard feature.

My mum has a Golf GTI anniversary, looks the pups nuts and im slightly jealous, because it looks so good in black with tinted windows.. swear shes a part time drug dealer...

anyway she has recaro seats in that, and they support on the sides and the feel of the seats are so good.. i wish i had them in my LCR.

If you have the option, go for them... i would.

Mine will be Performance Blue. I think orange will age badly and won't look so cool in a year or so.

I really can't say whether you'd get more from the ST over an LCR. I think they're both great cars and I'm only changing due to mileage concerns and my natural need to have a change of scene every couple of years.

Had both. Now got Recaros in the LCR and they were well worth the money. I don't care about Lumbar support and all that - I have never even touched the settings but the Recaros offer a lot more side support and they keep you in place; you need this in a car like the LCR. I'd definitely opt for Recaros. Both standard and Recaro seats look equally aesthetically pleasing.

Recaros have much better cushioning in them, deeper side and base bolsters, plus the lumbar adjustment too. They are far superior seats to standard ones, get them if you can. Plus point on the Golf ones is they come heated too, just need the wiring loom and switches (which I got off the UKMKIV forums for £60).

I didn't bother paying the extra to get them new when I got my car and the standard seats are quite good, but not great.

I get a bad lower back so for me getting hold of a driver's side Recaro after 10k in the standard seat was a blessing with the adjustable lumber support.

The side bolsters are also quite a bit better (and they seem to rise higher too), however the end of the front of the seat just behind the backs of your knees doesn't stick out as much as standard. Saying this, I can't say it feels any different/worse than the standard seat, but you can notice the difference between the 2 when they are side by side.

To be honest though, unless you had a bad back that would be helped by the lumbar support, or were driving very enthusiastically a lot of the time (i.e. track day efforts) where you can feel yourself sliding sideways too much in the standard seats, then I'd only pay to upgrade if it was affordable to you.

Plus if you could split the pair, I wouldn't bother paying for a Recaro passenger seat as to look at there is virtually no difference and it isn't really you passenger that needs the support - unless you like to pretend you are rallying and wanting to make you passenger feel like a navigator?

Standard seats are 'ok' but the Recaro's are soo much better and firmer. Don't go soggy after a year or so either.

If I was buying again I would definately be looking for one with Recaro's in.

Standard seats were fine for me, although I am a professional fat ba$tard. After 30,000 miles, the offside bolster had kind of moved out of the way a bit and you could feel the wire support - the seat fabric had started to wear away at the contact point (not so good).

I have the stanadard seats, and after 55k of rep mobile motoring, I can honestly say that they have worn well (with one rug doctor wash thrown in)

Would i have the Recaros? I've sat in them once or twice - and I would DEFINITELY have them.

Back from the dead
nobber came round to my house the other week and he had recaro's in his LCR. As soon as I got in them I wanted them. I went on the basis of the general consensus that they look fairly similar and in the early days people had mixed opinions about the benefits of them. However the side support is much improved. Its a shame they didn't make more of them in design concept to differentiate, but they are very nice.
