Tire life on pd130

I took my alloys off my fr today to paint the calipers red (might not be to some peoples taste) and had a look at what the tyre ware was like after 5250 miles.
I was a bit shocked as they almost finished and have got about 1mm left to the guides inbetween the tread.
Is this usual or is it because seat fit crap tyres on all there new cars( Dulop's  ).

dunlop SPs i melted a front pair in a few laps of a track (8), found them to turn to smoke on the road and very understeery, toyo T1s on my 17s were good grip etc , but ate away at the insides , this was discovered pretty early so i was able to swap the tyres on the front axle( need to be turned on each alloy also- directional tyre) now im using T1R on my fronts and they havent worn at all, tho i have had my geometry checked quite regulary , apparently 35% more life than an S is to be expected , loads of threads out there about tyres quite recently , happy reading

my original bridgestones have gone there too.

front passenger is worst but drivers is getting there.
other than that tyres wear evenly across them

i blame the ease of spinning tyres due to 405NM torque and a bit of damp weather.

I just had both my front tyres replaced after 23k miles - Bridgestone Turanzas.

They were getting close to the minimum tread depth, but as I hadn't checked the pressures often enough  , they'd worn on both inside and outside edges and so had to have them replaced.

5250 miles seems pretty shocking to me

The OE Bridgestones were pretty hard wearing, I'd have managed 20k+ if it hadn't been for the incorrect toe setting eating away the inside edges.

With the Conti Sport Contacts I tend to get around 10k per front pair. Rears last forever....

I had the T1Ss on for about 6k miles and they only had 1mm on each front tyre! was not impressed with the wear sp? bit they offer good grip in wet and dry!

I went with the T1Rs this time after a few mentioned them on here! Def inprovement in the level of grip! We will have to wait and see! I dont think you can get a good one cos it will depend on how you drive and everyone will have different opinions on what they think is best!

Bloody Xmas bonus got spent on mine :(

By the way I expect someone will be along soon to ask why this is in the TDI section, not the Mk4 Ibiza section ;)
Because i have a tdi and they might wear differently to the petrol ones  :D

well i got 25k plus trackdays from my T1-Rs.. could probably get another 5-10k out of them but the passenger front took a hammering at brunters.. so im just replacing all of them.

they are much better than the T1-S.. which seemed to be made of chocolate, and eventually de-laminated while pelting down the motorway(common occourence apparently)... thats NOT nice, like going over speedbumps at 100mph..

just ordered a set of Kumho KU31s.. mainly for the cheapness (43 quid a corner) but they apparently rival pzero neros in the dry :)

due to bad tracking my fronts are shagged but backs are about 1.5mm off wear bands.

23500 miles is good for me for set of tyres.

hope i get same out of Toyo's - they might last a year
