Yes, my rear lights are tinted. It was done by a company, while the Roof was Vinyl wrapped.
They used a film, applied in a similar manner to the vinyl actually (applied dry).
Plus the lights DO shine through just as bright as before - so no issues there.

You can get a similar effect with a film from Lamin-X. They do film for tinting light clusters etc...

Alterative is a spray! But a spray will put a 'blanket' of darker colour over the cluster, which must surely reduce the visible light output from the lights.

Film sticks to the outside of the light cluster glass, and covers the complete cluster.
So there's effectively 4 clusters on our Leons, 2 on the outside, plus the 2 on the inside (in the tailgate).

The film on the roll looked a gloss silver colour, however once applied, just offers a nice glossy tint.
It's not "blacked out" like you might see done on the Corsa's ;) but takes away the bright Red look of the rear lights on the Mk2 Leons. Looks alot more stealthy on my Black Leon.

Will see if i can get pics up at some time.

I understand that this is one of the things affected by the new MoT regs.

"Products on the lens or light source that obviously reduce the light's intensity or change its colour will become a reason for failure – applies to front/rear position lamps, registration plate lamps, stop lamps, rear fog and direction indicators"

You might want to check before doing anything permanent to your lights.

I used spray on mine. Just masked around the lights then sprayed. Hasn't changed the output of the lights but if u were worried u could always buy brighter bulbs from halfords. They say their 50% brighter

If the light output is very similar after the tint has been added (spray/film etc) then there should be no issues with the MOT whatsoever.

In addition, an MOT tester is very unlikely to realise the lights have been tinted if its just a subtle mod/tint. ie: You cant generally understand there is a film on them. Unless it was a very poor job done, or you went "limo black"!
