Timing belt done - now hesitating

we've just had the timing belt & water pump done on our Mk1 Cupra at the local main dealer. I've noticed that when pulling away it is hesitating. Worse from cold. Above 2000rpm it is fine and I can't notice any loss in power once you put your foot down which leads me to believe they haven't put the belt on one tooth out, but has anyone got any ideas before I give them a ring?

Yeah, it does hesitate when warm. I haven't got vag com, but I do have one of their cheaper fault code readers. I'll plug that in tonight and see whether it shows anything up.

you are unlikely to get a fault code for a temp sensor. (if thats what it is) But cant do any harm.
In the mean time id give the garage a call ASAP to explain you are having issues. Garages are usually more helpful if you point out an issue straight away, waiting even a day or two and they can fob people off.

Been out in it this morning and it doesn't seem as bad now, but anyone with with full vag com in wakefield, barnsley or sheffield want to plug into the car for a few beer tokens just to check it over?

Thanks for the offer james, but it still seems to be ok today. I gave it a dose of some fuel treatment and the old 'italian tune-up' (i.e. a bit of boot through the rev range - trouble is it my wifes car so it very rarely gets past 3k rpm) and it has been alright ever since. I'll be in touch if it happens again.

I wouldn't wait - get it straight back to the garage and explain it to them. If it turns out they did it wrong but you don't realise for a month, do you think they will be interested in remedying it for free?
