throttle sticking a bit

Hi,

When I first start the car sometimes (not always cold) it seems to idle at about 1.25k - 1.5k and when I've been driving around it suddenly starts to do it as well, which is a pain when it's in gear and you're trying to slow down enough to turn a corner as it starts to pull!

I can get it to come back down again to under 1k when I physically pull the accelerator towards me with my foot.

Does anybody else experience this problem and what could it be - I'm assuming it's the pedal/cable sticking. But any pointers would be good :)

EDIT: It seems to be when the revs drop below about 750 rpm, i.e. if you need to change down a gear. It adds some more throttle as if it's adding more choke, but it doesn't settle down again until I pull the accelerator up.

Thanks

Odd..
All mk4 beezers are drive by wire throttle..
it sounds like you may have a loose connection on the accellerator module or maybe its going faulty (not sure what its proper name is lol)

Can you check for fault codes too?
The engine has a "safety" mode that if it looses connection with the accellerator pedal unit, it raises the revs like you say to make the car still drivable without the throttle... this will be logged in the ECU.

Stick your head underneath and check the plug is in securely.. but it does sound like the unit will need to be replaced if you sometimes have to pull it back up yourself

Any idea where this accelerator module is located? Is it near the pedal or somewhere in the engine bay?

I'll get VAGCOM on it this morning and see what it churns up...

Cheers

you shouldnt have to pull the accelarator manually up at any point if it should do this at any time is when the engine is on cold start! this sounds to me like a stuicky cable or there is a problem with the pedal mechganism get your head into the drivers footwell and shine a torch up onto the accelorator pedal mechanism and aplly ect and see if you can see the problem visually might just need some white greese or could be something simply getting cort!

Yeh I had a look in the footwell. It looks like the pedal is going all the way back and when I pull the pedal towards me, it doesn't actually seem to move which suggests it's not getting stuck.

No faults on VAGCOM either...

sounds to me as if something is loose. vag.com will only bring up electrical faults  have you had a look under the bonnet while a friend applys the accelorator?

ive always thought that wd40 is bad! might make it oiley but is a pants long term lubrication as its so runny it actually gets rid of lubrication and can cause more problems! cant beat a bit of the old white grease or the thick gel in a tub
